I have heard Decathlons are bad to tip stall on final. I've also heard they are squirrley on the ground. Set your LG up carefully, and keep some speed on final approach.

I'm not familliar with this particular plane (The Global Hobby version), but Off the top of my head I would say to go with anything from a 91 4-stroke up to a YS 110 depending on how mentally unstable you are.

A 91 will be plenty! and probably give you close to, if not unlimited vertical.

I've never had a problem with a Decathlon tip stalling, but due to their short tail moment, they will be very unforgiving in a tail-heavy situation, so be careful when balancing.

On the bright side, Decathlon's are VERY FUN airplanes!

I have a Seagull (70 4-stroke) and a Goldberg, (YS 91 4-stroke) and I love them both!

Put a Saito 72 on her nose and enjoy a beautiful, realistic sounding airplane. The Dec flies like a ****cat. Good slow speed characteristics. Any airplane stalls somewhere. So don't get discouraged. Sure, she is rather short coupled but that's maybe a little issue on take off.
Good luck

i have a smaller decatholon, and i would suggest to put washout on the wing, so it won't tipp stal on final.

I agree. Ground handling is typical of a short coupled, tail dragger, and the gear bends a little easier than I would prefer but is easily rebent. Flies smoothly, and easily performs scale-looking maneuvers. I've not noticed any tip stalling, but I tend to keep a couple clicks of power on and let the plane descend to within inches of the ground before 'flairing.'

trdexter you may want to consider a Saito 82 if you are flying from a higher altitude field. If you haven't already found it, an RCM review of the Global Decathlon 52-61 is at ( http://www.hobbypeople.net/review/126515rcm.htm ).

Whats washout ???

Washout is when the line between the center of leading and trailing edges at the wingtip angles down a degree or two compared to the same line near the center of the wing.
This can be measured by blocking the plane so that center of the wing's leading and trailing edges next to the fuselage are the same distance from a flat surface (table, floor or counter top). Then measure the distance to the center of the leading and trailing edge at the last rib near a wing tip. If they are the same, there is no washout. Leading edge higher indicates 'washin', while training edge higher is 'washout.'

More than you asked for, but to check for a warped wing... make the same measurements for the other wing tip. If these and the previous measurements do not match the wing has some twist. If small, their will be little effect on flight performance and aileron trim will be sufficient. For best flight performance, carefully use a heat gun (or very hot towel) and slight pressure while twisting the wing. Remove the heat source while still holding pressure. When its cooled down measure again. Repeat the cycle until the measurements match.

This is my 4th plane but I am starting over after being out of it for 11 years and I am rejoining my old club which has doubled in members. I always had a love for this hobby and would like to make a quick comback. So that is why I'm starting over with a global arf, besides the fact that all parts of this plane is replaceable. Also the global super decathlon is a beautiful bird. Than this winter I,ll beable to build another plane, PT-19 1/4 scale 25cc.. Are field is about 100' below sea level off of the columbia river in Goble, OR the great north west.

tonystro your advice along with the rest of you have benn much welcomed and if any of you people can give me any more tipps that would be cool.

I wouldn't add any washout to a Decathalon. If the OP wants a trainer he should buy one. The Decathalon is an aerobat, and the wings are designed to do spins and snap rolls on demand. That's why they will tip stall if you get it going too slow on landings.

On servos, you shouldn't need much in that department. I'd expect 70-80 In/oz will fly it just fine.

A friend of mine has a decth. he flys basic IMAC with it he seems to enjoy the airplane.
Any airplane is gonna stall if you get to slow ....throttle management becomes more important on approach
As move up to more aerobatic airplanes....
I'd go with a 90 4 stroke if I were you ..... Something like hotel 5645 servos
And have someone take you up to knock the rust off
Good luck

Clipper, the post is from 05 and the Global wasn't a real popular Decath. I only recall seeing two of them. I have had a couple of them, one 100 inch ARF and one kit built. As I recall the CG was directly under the main spar but I think you can still go onto the Global site to get the specs.
They aren't a trainer but they aren't a hard to fly plane either. The tip stalling is from people trying to come in to land too slow, they aren't a trainer in any way and they are short coupled so you can ground loop it just like any Cub. I enjoyed my small one but gave the big ARF away. It flew fine but it was too big to haul and assemble at the field. It used a big ST glow engine too and it sucked fuel like crazy.
