Maidened my 1/8 Hornet last thurday and got a tough lesson of making good approach and keeping the speed up.

The plane stalled and came through from about 21feet to runway, braking all landing gear.

I was supposed to take him to JWM, but I might not make it as all the gear parts are hand made and can not be bought from the shop. Anyhow the nose is allready ok, less a servo. Last night I cast some new parts from aluminiun and turned some new ones drom stock billet.
The oil shocks, I had made worked great and took the most of the shunt out, but still the fuse got couple of crack in the bottom.

Status: offline 		Jussi... never pull the power off until your low and over the runway! You probably had the throttle advanced just before you hit, but because of turbine lag you got no thrust.. Sorry to see that happen.. hope the fix won't be to difficult. I noticed you had wind also, which makes it more important to keep the power up. Don't worry about running off the runway, just preset the brakes to about 50% and touchdown with power. Looks like your going to need at least 1/3 to 1/2 power on finial. Also a lower landing profile will help also, fly it to the runway under power, power enough to land or go around then it's your choice.

In downwind and base it looked, that it is going to go too long, thus taking the power to idle.
Then in the final turn, a bit of too much of pull and the nose came up -> taking the speed.

Taking the gear out, she needs about 1/3 power! Lots of drag on those gears.

From the video it looked like you were flying from an improved runway of some sort.... just keep in mind you can and should preset the brakes so even if the next time you fly even on a day when there is no wind you won't be concerned about running off the end.... just remember keep the power up enough so if you need to go around you can... don't chop the power to idle until you are over the runway and low enough to flair for a soft landing.

This landing setup will prevent you from running out of airspeed and or beginning your flair too high! Think of landings with our heavy Jets as a controlled low, low, low approach that you can increase power and go around at any time! Make the landing when your just at right spot and hight over the runway, by finally reducing power for landing.

Well, it did not hover too well.


Just put in the last construction glue to join some parts and filled the shocks with oil. Maybe a new test flight in the weekend...

Usually when maidening jets, I fly some slow flight to get a feel for correct sink rate etc. This time we were running late, thus the slow test was forgot and I payed for it.

Next flight will be just slow flight and approaches.
