I was wandering about a 20x8, but that may be to much. I bet a good 20x6 would put out some very good thrust and still have good downline breaking. I've never used a Mejzlick prop before. Are they expensive? I've always liked the APC wide blade props for 3D although I know they're kind of heavy.

The RC Report test got

20x8 Zinger standard wood---7,000
20x6----8.100
18x10---7,800 and the most thrust

Prop rpm request

How about apc 18x8, Mejzlik 20X6 and 20X8.

It sounds like it makes almost as much power as a OS 160 fx on 5% nitro.

If it can spin the 20X6 at 9000 it will be making the same power as my Enya 240.

Brian, it's going to be several days before I can do it, I boxed all of my engines up yesterday to move, but I will do it. 124 engines in 10 boxes, whoa.

I looked at the RC Report article. I thought I saw the most thrust was with 20x10 Zinger, generating nearly 20 lb. of thrust.

I was wondering if anyone tested this 220 with higher nitro like 20/20 or even 30% heli fuel. I think this is how glow 4-strokes like Saito and YS can start showing their power advantage over 2-stroke or gasoline engines.

That would show how much money you need to spend and how large a tank you would need for a 12 minute aerobatic flight with a big four stroke. I would bet my 160 fx on 30% with a 2 or 3 head shims would still make more power and still use less fuel.

I think the 220 is a kool engine and would be perfect for someone that has to have a four stroke in a 160 size aircraft do to preference or muffler size restrictions.

I seriously doubt that the 1.60 is going to be stronger or more economical than the 2.20, I know the 1.60 is a fine engine, but.

hobbys,

I would imagine that the 220 will be able to spin a Mejzlik 20X8 without over heating, my 160 would only spin it at about 6700 rpm and was not happy doing it. It needs to be proped down no lower than 7500.

My comment regarding fuel usage was directed at using 20-30% nitro in the 220. It would probably make good power but the fuel consumptiom would increase dramatically.

If you time a 8 oz or 16 oz tank at full throttle with the Mejzlik 20X6 and record the rpm I will compare my 160 to it if we both can spin it at the same rpm. The 160 gets between 7800-8000 rpm on 5% with the 20X6 and the Enya 2.40 gets 8900-9050 on the same fuel. I will have to double check. I remember that with a apc 17X8 prop, 8 oz. tank and 5% nitro/20% oil it ran for 5 minutes 20 seconds at full peaked throttle and 9400 rpm when the engine had 1/2 gallon thru it several years ago. It could use a front bearing now but it owes me nothing.

Thanks Brian, I am in the process of moving but will have a much better engine running place, I am glad you mentioned about the different nitro %s. I am going to order a case of WildCat fuel with one gallon each of 10, 15, 20 and 30% Nitro to do a torque test using my AHP Torque Reaction Dynamometer. I plan to use my Saito .82a and a 14x6 APC, I chose the .82 because the Dyno can handle up to a .91 and my Saiot 100 could very exceed its cababilities on 30% nitro. I'll get back to the 2.20 as soon as I can catch the Mrs. looking the other way without a box to unpack.

I did use the stock muffler to break in the engine and the numbers for the 17X8 were taken using it. The numbers for the 20X6 came from using the JTec dual snuffler muffler. It is very quiet and removes all two stroke wing-ing-ing sound. It is heavy and near the same performance can be had with the BGX or ST 4500 Bisson mufflers.

I will tach my original 160FX with various props again and post the results when I can.

Sorry Brian, my next to last Uncle in western Pa. passed away last week and my wife Geri broke her arm the day before that so it's been a mess around here for a few days. I've been insulating and drywalling my new shop so I only have about one third of my hobby stuff moved so far. I'll keep you posted.

From the info given it would seem that the SA220 is not really a power house. I mean the SA180 is already a real gas guzzler and now we see that the performance is only a little better than something like an OS160. From my personal experience running a TT120 2C, the engine does not really consume that much fuel, there is a possibility that the SA220 has the same consumption as th SA220. The SA220 may be a 4C engine but then if its like the SA180 means fuel consumption is heavy. Only benefit is that the SA220 will be able to throw a 20" prop.

How much is the YS160 compared with the SA220 ... the YS160 can handle a 18x8 with ease.

And still I like the big four stroke's for their sound, characteristics looks etc. It is all from the heart not the mind.

The Saito 180 is not a fuel guzzler when tuned properly and neither will the 2.20 be, Ti, you seem to be hung up on that at the exclusion of all else.

The Saito 180 was a fuel guzzler when people were trying to get OS160FX performance out of it using 30% nitro, and then it still didn't make as much power.

The Saito 220 may use less 10% nitro fuel than the Saito 180 burning 30% to spin the same OS 160 size props and may make as much power as the Moki 180.

I look forward to hobbys's reports on props and fuel consumption.

Hi guys,
Fuel consumptions depends on the type of flying.
I have a airplane powered with a Saito 180 and on my type of flying style with this airplane I got about 5 hours of running on only 10-11 liters of fuel containing no more than 15% nitro. The engine was flyable out of the box and after some minor tuning of the idle mixture I got a super reliable 17-1800rpm at idle but 14-1500rpm was also possible if desired . After only two tanks on the ground I flew this plane for another 5-6 flights, but just for the break in purposes

5hours = 300minutes
11L = 370 ozs This gives me 1,25 ozs/minutes and thats not so much.

I would love to have one of those SA220:s /Amir
