After seeing a Trex and a Shogun....HANDS DOWN the T-Rex.

Its bigger, and built WAY better than the shogun.

The shogun is nice, but that Trex is freakin awesome.

I am going with a T-Rex when the budget boss says we have the money to do so. Having just my daughter a 40 size plank trainer it might be a while. My LHS doesn't even stock the Shogun anymore. They said the the T-Rex is simply better. Having dealt with the owner for 17 years now I trust him, he has never steered me wrong.

Wow - this seems to have gone full circle - and now the new Shogun is in the lead.
I've seen setups between 639 and 870 (brushless with heading lock) Sounds like I should go all the way and then start replacing parts as they break - Or order upgrades in advance and be ready -haha.

The futaba 7 or hitec 6?
Futaba Gyro?
and 35A brushless Esc (if I go brushless) seems like I should. Although I just want to go up and down and in circles for now but I'm sure one thing leads to another - LOL.

i consider my x400 to handle and fly like a trex stock to stock.

so for you. if you are a good pilot, i would get the shogun. i feel the x400 and trex helicopters have limitations despite what ive seen in videos and upgrades etc. theyre just too damn heavy & big, power technology isnt good enough for them yet. the serious lipos (high voltage & capacity $$$) & motors you will have to buy if you want to throw them around. it's effortless with the shogun...you could use a cheap 3cell 1500mAH lipo and a little 400DH motor and itll have way more power than you can use. the shogun needs only small upgrades ie. 3d mixer arms & lightweight paddles.

just puttin around with my x400 i can already tell it needs MAJOR power requirements to throw it around. to feed it the power it needs is NOT cheap. 4-5Cell lipos with major capacity. HV means u need a seperate BEC. keep adding more weight.....

shogun does it easier. the only grip i have with the shogun is the sh1tty tail system. if only they modded it to use Trex boom and tail rotor it would be the perfect heli.

Sorry, this may seem like a dumb question but what is an X400? Is that the Zoom s
Shogun vs the Global 400 Showgun? or is it the WALKERA z400? OR Walkera Dragonfly X400

Thanks

X400 is basically a Trex derivative with a very nice aluminum frame and a different head assembly. it's made by the trex designer and interchanges some parts with the trex. x400 sold for $100 when first released, but now that demand is up, it's more like 130 now.

in terms of flying, the x400 is capable as the trex and is slightly lighter stock to stock. many mods are just coming out for the x400 (i dont really think much is needed other than the CNC elevator lever, mod prices are cheaper than Trex, oem parts are slightly more than trex but will improve once it gains popularity). the x400 is setup towards beginners...stable, tame, and easier to fly.

here's my freshly built x400. the only mod is trex yellow tailblades cuz the x400 ones are known to crack.

Hello DanAt2ndStory,

I want to hear how you made out.

Like you, I am flying a Blade CP and love it.

Have you made the move up to the next size?

I wanted to give you my opinion. I have a number of advanced heli friends. They all fly 90 size gas and glow helis. None of them use CCPM. I've flown a Venture 30 with CCPM. Here are some issues regarding CCPM.

The travel on on three servos needs to be the same or you will get aileron or elevator mixing during collective pitch changes. As a result, setup is easier on non-CCPM.

If a servo glitches in CCPM, you will get a glitch in two or three control inputs as opposed to one in non-CCPM.

That being said, you will be fine with either. Lots of people fly one or the other without issue so if your radio supports it, don't worry either way.

Now regarding the Shogun 400 V2 and the Trex 450X V2. You will not be disappointed with either heli. I've seen them both fly and as a second heli, either one would be great. As you advance, you will want to upgrade. If you put some hop-ups in too soon, they can slow down the learning process by making the heli harder to control.

I can pretty much guarantee that for any video you see of fantastic tricks being performed with one of the two, there are videos of the same (or better) fantastic tricks with the other. In many cases, the helis are no where near stock.

So go with what you have the best access to. If you have friends that fly one model, go with that. They can help you with setup and flying. If your local hobby store stocks lots of parts and hop-ups for a particular model, even better.

I can't say which is better, but I can at least say you are choosing between two of the best-in-class.

Happy Flying,

-Michael
