Anyone had any experience with these? The most scale looking Spitfire gear I've seen available in 1/4 & 1/5 they have both uplock and gear door brackets.

Morro,
Have a look at http://www.sierragiant.com/prod20.html
If I sell the house I could probably raise the deposit for a set of these.
I'd guess about $800-$900 AUD

Mongrel Spit

Todd, I have some progress pictures of the plane at the above link. Those gear from Sierra are the "cats meow" for sure, I will be giving Darrell an email soon, hopefully he has one in hand, as he seems really backed up lately, and I anticipate having this project wrapped up within the next couple of weeks. Or at least to primer state and ready to fly.

Four panels to build (two full quarter scale wings) here is the first one so far. If the wing starts to look like crap, there wont be no more pics.

Ray,

The wing looks ok so far, how much incidence does it have? what is the wingspan?

Todd,
I will build with a zero/zero incidence, as do with all of my aircraft. It may be that Reeves or any of the other Manfs perfer or draw with a more positive incidence in the wing or tail, but zero/zero is my preference.

Reeves wing will build to 110" of wing span. Building two is really paying off for me too, after each panel I get some ideas for the next lay up, or the on going steps. Tomorrow I will be doing the sheer webbing and center section building.

Hi Ray, your progress on the Spitfire is looking great!

Any news on pulling more fuses from the mold?

Thanks

Norman

Norman,
Thanks for the props, nope no progress on the mold, it may be some time before Henry will ever get to this project. He is deep in turbine jet build jobs. Drop into my site from time to time and when he does clean it up and redo the mold, I will leave a note to that fact.

In my opinion, based on the way the Reeves parts built, pricing and personal preferences, I would go Reeves all the way, start to finish. Matter of fact, if both wings turn out to be flyable, I will go ahead and buy the Reeves 1/4 scale fuse and build a whole second Spitfire.

Ray, it will be good to see the final product, I am contimplating building a 15' wingspan spit of ml407, yes again, cannot get enough of spits, this will be scratch built and if all goes well finished by early next year.

Thanks Jeff,
I have to give mucho credit to Mick, he has designed this to be a low parts count set up, very straight forward easy to read plans. I dropped in a couple of other builds of the same wing and noticed that I am already "overbuilding" it, but I will feel a lot safer about it when all done. IE I am using basswood instead of balsa on all the spars. I also plan to cross grain two 1/16th inch balsa sheers on all the webs. The wing is going to be sheeted with 3/32nds, and cabon unidirectional over the center section too. All in all, a nice vacation from my normal foam wings, but talk about a duck out of water over here.

Hi All,
I have been building a 1/4 scale spitfire from scratch over the last year and I am hoping to display it in tje uk for the 2004 season. Power is suplied by a Fuji 50 cc petrol engine and i have full working flaps and unitract air retracts. The all up weight of the plane has turned out to be 17 lbs so it should handle very well proving flights have taken place. It is covered in a glass skin using expoy resin and the paint shceme is now finished. Here are a few shots on its maiden flight. I have decided not to make a full scale model but a flying show model so some of the detail is not superb, but in the air is where it counts.
Happy landings
Phil
