And finally. Not exactly an RCM cover, but I doubt anyone will mind.

Great covers! Nice to see. Many of us have seen a great number of them over the last 30-35 years (or more). How can we help get some of that beloved content back in the remaining big mag that was 30 or 40 years old before RCM came out. If your mourning RCM you are not alone. These other nice mags came and went also during M.A.N.'s tenure. Let's stop looking back and participate in what will be the future. Possibly a problem is the continuous whining I've heard in all the mags when their topic wasn't at the forefront and some odd article came in. The health of the greater hobby was always fed by a diverse and wise publishing mentality that gave most something to get interested in. The hobby is small enough that if we start dicing up publications; we are killing the patient. Us hobbiests are generally intelligent and curious people and capable of suffering what we think we don't like at the moment. The trends have come and gone(or just receded in popularity more accurately) over decades. We can't afford to totally lose a group which might not be currently popular just because a short sighted publisher decides to overload a trend for "short term economic" reasons. Keep up diversity, and challenge!

The edit was spelling only-me

I suppose that the best that we can do is to support this thread, talk about the things that we want to see, and hope that some enterpreneur reads it and decides to resurrect RCM in its old format tailored to what people really want to see. Do you think that we are a minority of readers, or do you think that we reflect the ideas of the majority of modelers when we talk about these things on this thread?

A new RCM magazine would have to do a lot of advertising to get people's attention, but I think that once a few brave souls read the 'new' RCM in its 'old' format, then word would get around and readership would climb dramatically.

Perhaps the emphasis would be more on the technology of the sport/hobby and less on construction. Face it, construction is sadly not be as popular as it once was, but it is popular to some readers. So, a column like that olumn like that would have some interest.

I think that an interesting crossover column would be something on kitbashing... take a standard ARF and modify it into something unique. I'll bet there are lots of good ideas out there. The changes could be technical (add spoilers to a wing, for instance) to just cosmetic.

What other types of things would people like to see in a more 'serious' magazine???

Bob

Good thoughts; I think leadership needs to be exercised. What we want and need are different. The old mag gave both. Lets not give up on building please! It really is the core..but no one wants to say it. THE hobby consisted of building..and then flying. Flying by itself is can get boring on it's own. Not enough to captivate a long term interest(no challenge).

OK flying is a challenge..ha ha, just saying it is nice to fly something you are proud of.

We had one once, Scale R/C Modeler... It was also a good 'class' magazine, and I'd like to see something like that myself. I wonder if there is sufficient readership, or could it become part of a regular RCM?

Whadday think, tailskid?

Bob
