Hi

I have a question about the E-Flite Blade CP Bell Hiller setup. How is it sepses to work? I took a look at the Esky HB-CP2 Bell Hiller setup and I can see how that works but I just can not see the setup for the BCP working all that well. To me, the setup for the BCP looks like it is going to bind up.

helorookie...I dont know. I would think it would work fine since both helis are pretty much identical as far as the 4-in-1 box and electronics.

AJDragon...I agree. I think the E-sky head is a much better setup. I just dont like the E-flite's oddly angled linkages. The E-sky head seems to be a much more "intelligent" design. I think I am going to stick with the E-sky head. Now if I can only get the parts I need from Bill Altman...Ill be doing great.

Just an opinion between the two heads from a different user.......

"The head on this thing is more complicated that the Blade, and is easier to break. There are some parts that are the same as the Blade, but be prepared to spend time waiting on parts."

I honestly believe that E-Flite has put the B&H through some serious R&D before making their customers wait this long.

Hello everyone,

The "angled" linkage setup of the E-flite bell-hiller head design presents no binding or performance issues. It has been very extensively tested (the final design was used on the 1st and 2nd place finishing models at the World Micro Helicopter Cup last October...videos of these flights can be seen in the article posted here on RCU) and developed to provide a more direct, lighter weight and more robust alternative to other bell-hiller rotor head designs in this class. Rest assured, quite a bit of "intelligent" work went into this design

Having personally flown (and crashed...ouch!) both head designs mentioned here, I am confident everyone will be very pleased with the performance of their model when using the EFL parts.

bdavison -

You might double check the dampening of the head on your friend's BCP with the Bell Mixer Upgrade Kit installed. If he used all the optional shims included (2 on each side) and his headspeed is too low, it will cause the model to "wobble" in flight. You might have him try 1 shim on each side to see if the wobble goes away.

In general, I would suggest that most people start with no additional shims when installing the Bell Mixer Upgrade Kit as the cyclic response with this kit installed is significantly increased over the stock hiller-only arrangement and can sometimes take some getting used to

Good luck guys,

Jason Merkle

Hi

Hay bdavison thanks for making this thread, I just got done reassembling my blade using this thread and boy was the factory settings way off. The rear right servo was pulling the swash-plate 1/4 of an inch lower then the other servos. Have you ever thought about taking all of the info you have posted here and making a manual of it.

Roger that... I have the kit now...so I will be trying it out soon. Ill work with the shims to get it set right, and then help my buddy get his set correctly. Im getting ready to compete in the Xtreme championships this weekend, so I'll be out for a while. Ill let you know how it goes. Thanks for the tip.

AJ, there are multiple sites that have edited or more comprehensive parts of this thread that were built by people that used this thread for input. One of which is www.bladecprepair.com
Im glad the thread helped you out. Ive never considered a "printed" version, but thats not a bad idea.

Enjoy.

Hi bdavidson - Thanks for this thread. I acquired a BCP today, and have learned alot reading this. Quick question: way back in Post 45 (page 3) there is a pic of your Blade ready for trimming. Where did you get the horizontal and vertical stabilizers? (using fixed wing terms, not sure what they are called on helis). I searched horizonhobby.com and didnt see them listed as a part for the BCP.

Thanks again

Peter

Hello ,
I am new to the forum and I just wanted to take the time say thanks To Bdavison. WOW what a great post, I am new to the Heli world with my used CP and all of it battered and broken parts. I purchased all new parts had no idea what I was doing and then saw your post and from that point on, well I can say that I am very pleased. I wanted just what I got a pile of plastic that I knew nothing about and learned everything from you and your post . I will tell you that not only did I rebuild the whole heli but I took it outside and for the first time ever Hovered it and and became familiar with all of the working parts. I know I have alot to learn but man did I have some fun with only three flights before trashing the new blades. I again want to thank you for all of your help and knowledge. Thanks very much.....John

Hopefully coming soon...Ill have an addition to the thread....the Bell/Hiller upgrade. It will have to wait until I get back from the competition...so look for it coming soon.

bdavison,

First off I would like to say thank you for taking your own time on writing such a descriptive how to for the community of heli enthusiasts.

I am still deciding whether I should get the blade cp or the honeybee cp2, but in the case I purchase a honeybee, would your guide relate?

The guide should help. The CP2 has a different head design(if its the one with the bell/hiller head), but alot of the principles of how to trim and set it correctly should help. I really like the Honeybee CP2. Its a great little heli, and flys good too. Its very simular to the Blade as far as size and set-up.

just a quick fix to some of you that may be experiencing the wobbly heli with the bell hiller upgrade. Make sure that the small screw on the mixing lever is not overtightened, if it is your flybar will not move freely and you will have a wobbly bird!!! cheers
