Gnome, the best way to post a picture is to reply to a forum entry, when you do that you get the word File in the left hand column, bottom. Just to the right will be the "click here to upload images and files" text. click on that and you can upload up to 3mb total images at one time.

Cool

Thank You, here are the pictures:

The four cylinder is the basis for the Ghost, a De Haviland Cirrus engine, scale is also 1/6, displacement is 15cc. The Ghost doubles the Cirrus to V 8.

Wow, that is too cool! Is there a video of it running? I'd love to hear how it sounds. I would imagine that it would be a bit different than a radial.

Ya gotta post a video....

Chasman, I'm afraid I've no video camera, strange, isn't it? I use 16mm movie film, but I think, my digital photo camera makes videos too. The sound of the Ghost is a little disappointing to some people, because it is very silent, but it has the typical V 8 sound during idle, a bit fast, it idles at about 1500 or so. I want to make a combo withe a K&W / Kavan Royal Aircraft Factory BE2C and hope it has enough power for it. You can see the model on www.kwmairpl.com.ph .

Hey, what do You think about this? It's a two stroke radial with plunger type charging pumps, one for each cylinder, and it works. It was built by Mr. Ruppert here in Germany. Befor this one he tried a two stroke radial with a roots style charging pump, which missed the deal, the charging pressure during start was to low.

All:

Again, using Pe Rievers' "Prop Power" sheet and Gnome's figures I get these numbers:

Seidel ST 540:
19x6 Menz at 5900rpm, 1.13n hp.
20x8 5100 rpm, 1.2 hp
22x8 4900 rpm, 1.56 hp.

Seidel ST 710:
24x10 5500 rpm, 3.9 hp

Technopower 7C:
14x8 7100, 0.78 hp
16x4 7200, 0.69 hp
16x6 6200, 0.66 hp.

DH Ghost:
16x6 6200 rpm, 0.66 hp.

Since these engines all fly well, it would seem that BHP is definitely over rated.

Ram-Bro (and others):

If you would like the Prop Power model send me your email address and I'll send a copy. Since it's neither text nor graphics it will not go through RCU, has to be email.

Bill.

Has anybody experience with a self built MORTON M5? I plan my new project, I want to get the castings and parts to build such an engine, I think running on glow plugs, can somebody tell me something about the skill I need? I have a lath and a mill and so on and I know how to use them.

Thank You for the hint, Tom,

I think I'll get the Morton M5 parts, may be I join the group when I start machining the first parts. Mr Satra claims, the actual step of the M5 runs with glow plugs, has 8 : 1 compression rate and has enough power to fly.

Hey Bill,

I just tried the TP 9 cylinder again on the test stand. To my opinion it don't overheats, I can touch the crankcase and rockerboxes imediately after stopping the engine. It reacts the same, nevertheless if I rev it up 30 seconds or 5 minutes after starting.

The following happens:

When pulling the throttle from idle, it revs up very nice without hesitation, runs on full rpm (I don't know the rpm yet) for about 5 seconds and then looses power. When the plugs are switched off at full rpm, again 5 seconds after the revs had dropped about 1000rpm, one or two cylinders misfire and die. When I switch the plugs on again at idle, the cylinders get to life again and I can reproduce the process.

When I rev it up and leave the plugs heated, it drops the revs even more, but all cylinders keep running.

The engine has no response on the needle valve at full rpm, of course, I can make it too lean, but I can' lean it out to best rpm.

Without nitro the effect isn't as big as with 10% nitro.

Do You think that the ignition timing is too early for the 22 x 8 Menz? Or is the prop too big?

I will try a 21 x 6 next time.
