??? No gas engine can run on glow plugs, but there is a company in Germany, "Becker Elektronik", who makes spark ignitions even for radials. It's quite expensive, I think a 7 cylinder ignition would cost about 900.- Euro.

I use a german "Hölzl" glow driver with my Technopower 7A, it has 7 conectors, one for each plug, and You can adjust them seperately, works with 6 cells NIMH and is quite functional.

For my next application I bought a "Microsense" system too, adjustment seems to be very simple.

Great sight, radials are addicting!

I am thinking of building a Vailly Aviation 1/5 Sea Fury http://www.vaillyaviation.com/ and going to put a radial in it. Was thinking about going with the Saito 450.

Does anyone have a link to a video of that motor running. Just wondering if it sounds as sweet as the 5 cylinder radials. I would go with a ASP/Magnum 400 but may be a little underpowered in a 30lbs Sea Fury. I would think the Saito 450 would be just right!

I was looking at the new RCS/Moki 150, dream on brother, ya don't make that much

Also will be bashing the kit to look like this,

Regarding the sound, Some said that to have a scale sound you must think that or model radials are running about three times faster (rpm) than the real ones, that means three times more explosions. So if you want to have the same number of explosion on a period of time, you must have the third of the number of cylinders that has the full scale airplane.

So a saito 450 R3 could match the sound of a plane with a nine cylinder...

(Wow, it's hard to explain when it's not your mother language... hope you guys understand what i try to explain...)

How much cylinder does the seafury have ?

Well it does not need to sound exactly scale but ratter Radial like. That syncopated beat!

Anyway I am sure it must sound good, would like to find a video of one running.

Thanks.

I've heard the smaller one, the FA 170 R3, it sounds well and radial like. A friend as the 450, but he hasn't runed it yet.

---------------

Never the less, you did an excellent job of explaining it well.

A month ago (there abouts) I had no radial engines. Now I have two. Yes, they are addictive.

What sold me on the Saito R5 was the video offerings made available by the Aeroworks folks. It had a really good sound on those flybys. This is not to say that any other 5-cylinder radial wouldn't have sounded as good, but I KNOW that the Saito radial sounds good. Plus I'm partial to the gold valve covers. Yeah, I know. Not scale looking. Who cares? <G>

I would love to have a seven or nine cylinder radial, but they cost more than I'm willing to spend at this point. Ditto the RCS radials. I was going to spring for a 215, went to the site to order it and then noticed that the price had gone up to an even more ridiculous level. Now they want as much for a 150 as for the 215 a short while back.

I've bought/owned/operated products from RC Showcase before and I had a great deal of fun and terrific support from those folks. But if I'm going to spend $3,500 for a model airplane engine, you can bet your a$$ it is going to be a turbine. And that will probably never happen.

I agree, also, that the gas engines have more exhaust note bite than the alky fueled engines. But, for now, I'll be sticking with the alky fueled engines with their glow plugs and ooky exhaust mess.

Sorry for rambling...

Well,

Be carefull, when you start to be addicted to radial engines, it lasts and cost a lot... I've bought the first one by hazard (it was on a plane that i bought), for then, i have three others...
