I think we could compete in individual events. I know I could not fly that schedule. LOL

jp had an idea ..how about hovering inside a square of crape paper twice the length of your wing span for a time of 3 sec. or more.. things like this would show flying skill... what do you think? Doug

I think that eliminations should be in a "individual challenges" format. Maybe still with a difficulty factor. I'd like to see a freestyle finals, or maybe a separate event within the TOP. Have an overall winner (separate challenges) and then have a Freestyle Champion too.

Freestyle is a crowd pleaser. Having a crowd at the TOP is a priority (I hope). That's what sponsors want, and it sure makes it more fun for us.

Great ideas guys!
Doug: that sounds neat. Have a pilot enter and exit the box of paper without cutting or tearing the paper. what a challenge. Kind of like a vertical limbo!
Keep them coming.
I trust that wherever we have these events that all you RC Profile Pilots can get up some volunteers to help us all out!

how about an obstacle course,

something like start with a 4' high limbo then over a 6' high "bar" to an box at a 90deg turn then you have to pass invereted through a box, etc etc etc.

it would take alot of work to set up (making then setting up multiple obstacles) and alot of trial and error with the setup (to get it hard but not impossible)

you can do time trails or increasing difficulty (one pass normal, next pass reverse, next pass inverted, inverted reverse etc)

How about adding a "Wall against a Wall" as part of the course. Make a PVC frame (maybe 10x10 or so) and everyone try to do a wall as close to the invisible wall (the 10x10 square) without "hitting the wall". Maybe use butcher paper inside the square to show who actually passed through the wall. A "Wall against a Wall" followed by a stall turn would be a heck of a turnaround manuver for one end of the course. I'd add bonus points if the tail wheel breaks the paper and no other part of the plane does. That's getting pretty close you know!

here is what im talking about, the sizes could be adjusted (i dont know how hard it would be to acually make it though these but the idea is there.

I feel that something like this could be good for a beginner course and we can add things like "the wall" for diffrent classes,

I am thinking of a few more ideas of challenges that can be rearanged and such

edit:

I am also going to work out some symbology for the obstacles so you can easily design and review a course on paper somthing like the aresti diagrams that pattern guys have

We are thinking that there will be (3) different classes of events to fly in, so don't be shy!

I heard you guys talking about every aspect of this event minus one important piece. Judges. Judging always makes or breaks an event. If you guys stick to the type of rounds that you are currently talking about.....ie. wall against a wall etc....it shouldn't be to hard to judge that, but I heard freestyle thrown out and maybe known/unknown sequences. This is were judge training would be needed. While you are setting up the location, the board, donations etc.....I would work hard to get the judging in order as well.

I would also offer an opinion that setting up a series of knowns, and unknowns to be given out the night before really helps in leveling out the classes. This procedure as been used in several different areas of or hobby to great success.

I look forward to kicking a little butt at this event.....

Guess I better buy my old Knife back or finish my Edge profile design that will be using the wings off of a Aeroworks 60/90 Edge.....

Take care....

If I can make it down to the TOP I volunteer to be a judge, as much as i love flying, and as much as I loved the pro bros funfly I'm not really one for competitions.

so If I can make it to this one I'll help with the "official" duties and such, just as long as us judges get plenty of free flight time.

btw I have got some more idea for the obstacle course that i will post later.
does everyone like the obstacle idea, should I continue with figureing it out?
