resle -> removing acrylic and enamel paint (7/8/2005 4:26 PM)

rc cars is not one of my hobbies but i do have an xmod corvette that has been good to me unlike others ive heard. any way i decided to paint it white and since i had just bought some acrylic testors paints with pictures of cars on the box i figured it was ok, so i painted it with a couple of layers but it wasnt solid white so i used some enamel to make it whiter and then painted acrylic over that to make shinier. well now it looks like crap so i need a way to remove the paint

Since it's being painted on the outside, just grab a bottle of paint remover. If it clouds the body, just sand it down and repaint! Don't forget to use primer, it really enhances the color!

i already painted it so paint remover wont work. how bout nail polisher remover? or will that ruin the body?

Huh? I don't get what you mean. If you painted it, that's why you want to use paint remover (graffiti remover) to get it off. Nail polish remover will work too, except it's kinda expensive...

oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh, i thought u meant brush cleaner for enamels[8|], ur absulutly sure the nail polish remover wont ruin the plastic? because i cant get a new body unless i buy another car[8|]

Is the body plastic? I've tried nail polish remover on six thick coats of enamel paint and the polish remover didn't get the paint off. So yea, the polish remover isn't that strong. Maybe you should find some more advice on it before trying it. But it shouldn't ruin the plastic (except maybe cloud it). I think the best way is to use graffiti remover. If you have the patience, you can sand down the whole body.

r u saying i can either sand down the body or use paint remover? or that sanding is required when using paint remover? at any rate i wish to keep the original paint job nail polish is out

It's either you sand down the paint until all of it is gone or you use paint remover. You can do both, but there's not point. I would use paint remover because it goes alot faster than sanding. But it does cost more than sanding.

well i just came back from the lhs and they said theirs not much u can do to get acrylic paint off so im just gonna sand it until i cant see the brush lines.
