Hi Pete

Are you planning on taking the 51 to Bundy for their warbirds do on the 17th?

Do you know if Ron C is going?

Cheers

hmm not sure at this stage, reason being is we are madly doing a major spit and polish to our house prior to listing it on the market so time is a real premium right now.

Trying to get the house painted is critical path on our schedule so if that slips due to contractor or weather we are stuffed!

I still have a few things to do to the Mustang prior to flying it again, needs at least 30 mins ground running to break in the engine and needs the new retracts fitted. This last activity requires modifying the rails to bring the new gear forward about 8mm as the pivot point is rearwards 8mm on the new one capared to the old set. Bloody nuisance to be honest

Mate I would love to say we are coming up but to be honest I would say only about a 20% at most possibility.

Too far for Ron C I would say but get in touch with him just in case, he was muttering about going down to a scale event at Coffs Harbour so you never know!

cheers
Peter

Hi Bob,

nearly finished the house, just the garage doors to paint, deck floor to be rolled and another coat on the back rail of the stairs.

Then new rails for the deck and patio. Will be listing then.

Have not fitted the new retracts into the 51 yet, rebuilt and fitted the engine but have not run it yet. No time .

Have not touched the Cub in ages, it is still waiting on me to finish off the glass work on the nose. Could finish it off quite quickly if i had time!!

What are you up to these days?

cheers
me

Pete

Well I think I have the oldest new hanger queen ever. Finally got the problems with the 62 sorted out and the weather and my time off would not match up, and when it finally did took every thing to the field, only to have a broken wire on the jump start switch, now the weather is in the dumper again, still struggling with my G-38, so have resigned to flying the cub.

Bob,
bugger mate that is dreadful. What is the problem with the 38? They are noramlly a really reliable donk? Only probs I hear is that the carb diaphrams go after a bit so a carby kit can be in order, especailly if the engine has been sitting for ages.

Will need to do that on my 90" Spitfire Mk XII which has a 38 in it. Engine has not been run in about 6 years.

Hoping to get out for a fly this Sunday, just with the Astrohog though. We are lucky in that we can fly 362 per year with only time being our downfall.

We had a bloody Flying Fox (bat) do a bloody great mango coloured crap all down the side of our newly painted walls overnight, damn creatures. So out with the hose to squirt it off before it hardnened and ate into the paint. Still left a stain though.

been having a ball winding up the wankers on the ULtra RC thread, man what an arrogant clown that guy is. Total lack of customer support, no communication then blames the customer for THEIR piss poor performance. Lets hope afew people take note and take their $$ elsewhere.

cheers
Peter

Lets start with the 38 I purchased it about 18 years ago NIB from an add in the old RCM mag Price $99.00 +shipping so it has had as near as I can tell over30 minimum gallons of fuel through it. and your are right we did a carb rebuild but it still did not come up to speed, did a compression check with a small engine gage, on three 3 turns only got (several trys) about 40 lps. and the gas engine thread guys say it should be up to about 85+ new ring in a lightly honed cylinder and after an hour of run time still would not come up to rpm's, so I have decided to replace it. Found a used one that had been sitting for 2yers, tryed to fire it up and it will only burn off the prime even after socking the carb for a day in gas, and the orig owner did some mods to the carb that I don't trust so will install a new carb, new carb will be hear in a few days, when I quit flying for the season will fill carb with a product called STA-BILL been using it for years in the lawn mower and snow blower when I put wicth ever away,

My flying buddy has a yellow spit he is trying to finish this winter will have the new revolution 52 from Canada, it curently in a 1/3 pitts and at full bore it make that bird sing, normal flight is just a bit more than 1/3 throtle.

You've got the flying fox and some how this summer we have some small birds that c+#@ p like seagulls and have to wash as sone as I see it or it stains to.

I am not firmilure with the ULTra RC thread, give me the address and I'll have a look.
probly should have put this in a PM rather then hear in the thread , oh well keep in tuch.

Cheers Bob

hey Bob, mate sounds like the 38 has had it!

hmmm wish we got snow here in winter, mind you quite like being able to bum about in shorts and singy in the middle of winter too hehe

yeh we have bloody pidgeons too, bloody things coo coo ing early morning while they are looking for a mate and like you say crap everywhere. Butcher bird got one a few days ago, ripped it apart. That'll learn it!!

Naw in public is fine, quite like sturring up the odd fool or two hehehe Can't help meself. That wanker from Ultra RC was nosing about in this thread but buzzed off when I dopped in earlier. Still with his attitude to customer enquiries he will soon be flipping burgers for a living, if he can figure out which is up and which is down hehehe

gotta run
ciao!
Peter

Can't wait to get it in the air again! I can feel a trip to Coolum coming up!

finally started installing the new retracts as the old one were had it, the cam forks fatiqued and constantly chewing out the roll pins on the pivot shaft.

AS the new ones have the oleo postion about 5mm rearward compared to the old ones so had to redo the rails by epoxing a piece of hardwood to the front of the existing rails. wil lthen cut out a section from the front rail which will allow the retract unit to move forward the required amount.

Hope to have this comleted quickly then will get this bird back in the air so I can get back to other projects like finishing the Cub and getting back to the P47!

Plan is to have it ready for the RAIID Warbirds day on the 29th Oct.

cheers
Peter

Hey Pete

best get cracking on that Jug of yours ..........my TF GS Jug is now 95% complete......just need to finish the fitout of the cockpit kit and add the engine plumbing and tank.....aiming for December 2nd test flight.........12 months to the day from opening the box of sticks!

Just landed a MD 100" P51 (to go with the Spitty I bought a months back) that was started by a guy up your neck of the woods (Deception Bay) who decided to go IMAC 2.6 Extra (yawn ) and needed the $$........ so this may be the next project in front of the MD Spitfire.
On the subject of the MD Spitfire.....I received the retracts from Peter Gow a few weeks back.....I got the oil dampened oleo legs to help prevent the obligitory Spitfire "bounce" on landing.....they are a work of art !...........just need to order another set for the P51 now.......hmmm more $$$$

cheers

Alan

Peter is never going to finish that damned Jug. Never ever. I'm not even sure he is going to build the wing fillets. "P-51", "moving", "oh drats it's summer now and I have to fly", "Gee, I crashed the Cub again". Blah, Blah, Blah.

How are you, Peter?

Tom
