Here's my US40 build. My wife bought this kit for me for Christmas. So far, all I have done is the wing. The wheel wells were a lot of work. I am installing some Robart 510 pneumatic retracts and robo struts. I finally got it all working right. I am installing a Jett SJ .56LX in the nose too. This thing should be a scream!

Hey KC10 Chief i looked around the jett engineering web site and i cant find anything about the engine that you mentioned about, did you use the wrong number or can you provide the link to the motor that you are using? I have a jett .46 that im gonna send in and have it checked and tuned up for me the gentlemen that i talked to on the phone said that i have something wrong with the muffler so as soon as i get a nice paycheck off to the guys that knows the engine right!!

Sorry it took me so long to reply. Anyways, the Jett .56LX is still not on the site. I don't know why he doesn't update it. The .56 is replacing the .60LX. Same price and everything. If you were to try to order a .60LX, you'd get the .56. He's kind of backed up on orders for the .56LX right now. I ordered mine about 6 weeks ago, and it finally got here today! Let me tell you... this thing is sweet! Quality motor. I can't wait to get it on the bench and run it for the first time. I can now proceed on my fuselage.

OK here comes another! Just finished and ready to maiden next weekend, weather permitting

Pretty much standard except for a fully sheeted wing and two aileron servos (mounted in the middle of the wing). Glassed with .58ox cloth and painted with standard paint store water based paints with a coat of Nelson's clear coat on top. My first time using Nelsons, after a short learning curve was very impressed with it.

Paint scheme was, as for most of my paint jobs, plagiarised from someone else's model in a mag. Sorry, but I am just not capable of original thought

Power is from a Thunder Tiger Pro 61 and guidance is by Spektrum. Had a US40 for a long time (don't ask!!) as well as an US 40+ which is still on the inventory. Liked the trike gear I had on the US40 so, after considering retracts (which I have on the 40+) opted for the simplicity of fixed gear. Have yet to weigh the model.

mineburg,  do you have trouble seeing your plane. My  .60 is all metallic blue on top and yellow bottom of wings with 4 in black and white stripes. and the thing well just disappear on me against a blue sky.. Last week I flew it and the only thing I could pick out a a few times ,was the black dot of the canopy . I've got to do something about it ,before I take it out again.
Last fall I posted that I had got about 15 to 20 flights on my U.S .60 , all were dead sticks, as I was having some issues with a newly overhauled engine. Turned out to be a brain fart on my end, just needed to rotate the carb needle assm. a little farther than I thought it should go. I have the ST.90 running very nice now and am starting to wonder if it's a little to much ? Vertical is unlimited and at a very high rate of climb and I'm using 1/2 to 2/3 throttle most the time , with a rich needle setting. The engine has new bearings, sleeve and ring so the power is just going to get better. I have always been a more power is better type of guy ,but  may just switch to a ST.75 or .61 as I have them setting in the engine cabinet.

So many pretty planes. How about some UGLY?

Went out and test flew my US40 I rebuilt last year. I tried to fly it last year but had radio issues. Turns out my rubber duck antenna was bad. Got that all sorted out this season and had a wonderful maiden flight and the OS .46ax was honking. Started to wring it out on the second flight and during a split S I experienced some high speed flutter and it turned into a figure 9. From the postmortem I can see where the servo wheels broke from the flutter. I managed to throttle back so it didn't go in full bore, but it is bad enough. JR Sport MN48 servos weren't up to the task. They are for 20-40 sized planes and I pushed that limit. I will be putting in Standard sized BB ones next. I will set the wreckage aside for a few weeks and rebuild it yet again.

Dang , sorry to see that happen  ,coreman . You got a good attitude and letting it set a week or two is just what I need to do after a hard crash . I take it ,thats the left part of the wing ,scattered in little piecesaround the crash site?

yeah, that is why I showed the hillside initially as there wasn't a lot left. This is the third rebuild. I bought it as a crash originally. I have an unbuilt kit that I use for patterns. it really isn't as bad as the last time, there is fuselage in front of the wing saddle 8^) I am sure I can graft on yet another wing panel since the center section (and thus the spar doublers) are still intact. Easier to build half a wing. I did strip out four of the servo gear trains so they will be relegated to throttles from now on. And the spinner survived. I suppose I should be happy it happened in March during our mud/soft ground season.

insane, sometimes when turning base to final it disappears for a second but thats the only time i have ever had a problem. my magnum 91 fs is insanely overpowered too but i like it, just prop clearance is a major problem.

Maiden of my US60 (see above) on Sunday was almost a disaster!

Take off was uneventful, and after getting into the pattern dialled in a couple of clicks of elevator for level flight. I am just considering whether a click of aileron is required, when suddenly the plane went haywire, seemingly going in random directions with a bias towards down

There appears to be no response to control inputs, and I am visualising my new plane scattered in bits over the grass, when suddenly I have control again! I wasted no time in heading for the runway asap, and make an inelegant but damage free landing.

On investigation it seems that the (Spektrum AR6200) receiver dropped out with the ailerons deflected. The pre flight range check was OK, but we were able to get it to drop out afterwards with the range check button on the Tx pressed. Power to the Rx was OK, a new 6v 2000mAh battery fully charged. Switch also tested OK.

I considered the possibility that that problem could have been the Tx (DX7) but I had flown two other models on the day without problem. Investigations continue, however next flight will be with a different Rx and switch. I have been flying Spektrum for nearly 3 years and this is the first problem like this that I have encountered.

Good to hear you got it down in one piece. I'm also using Spektrum recievers, and have never had any problems with them. Except one time in a full carbon sailplane with external antennas. I was loosing height on the slope, and both antennas got into the wings shadow. Fortunately the plane was in a slight nose down, left turn. It continued the flight until the antennas came out of the shadow and I regained control. Turned it right back in and landed in front of the slope. Phew

Besides the sideways mounted engine, what else did you to the Cherokee, reduce the wing incedence?

I have bouth planes in the pic, and my VK is in the process of being recovered (looks almost like yours does actually!)

Thanks,
Bill

So you guys have convinced me to build an Ultra Sport. I have decided on the US60 kit from Great Planes. I will be using a ST 75 that I have for power.

I do have one question. How does this plane handle in windy conditions? A normal day at our field is about a 10mph wind.

It is rock solid in the wind and depending on your field, it can help slow it down for landing since they are VERY clean
