These are my last 2 Ultra Sports (I don't have pictures of my first one). They are both US 60's, powered with OS 61 FX. The black one fell prey to a slow fuel tank leak that soaked the fuselage with fuel that then the wing pulled out on an outside loop.

I have a US 1000 kit that I plan on starting later this summer. I also have 4 US 60 kits hidden away in the closet so that I can have them on down the road. I spoke with a VP at Great Planes last year and he said that there is a good possibility we could see the US 60 released as a nostalgia kit with a limited run, but he didn't give a time frame as to when that might happen. So until then I have my kits hidden in the closet!!!

IMHO this has to THE best sport plane ever produced. I was sorry to see that Great Planes killed the kit. Those that are interested you can purchase plans for Ultra Sports from RCM

I actually prefer it as a trike. Here in Oklahoma we deal with a lot of wind, and the trike has better ground handling when it's windy. Other than that they both fly the same.

Hope this helps

I prefer the taildragger setup, but only because this plane looks so good with retracts!

I don't have a picture of mine, but here's the color scheme

Here is a pic of my second US 60. The first one died when me and another guy didn't follow our club's frequency control rules, and I got shot down.

This 60 has a very early OS 91 four stroke. I like the motor, but I don't have much prop clearance, so I have to run a small dia prop with alot of pitch.

I think my next one will get a 60 2 cycle.

Right now I don't have anything to post a picture of. The Ultra Sport 60 is going to be my next plane, scratch built from the original RCM plans. It looks like it could be lightened quite a bit. I'm going to stick a Webra Speed 61 in it. From what I've seen and read, this plane is a classic, just like the Kaos.

Mturowski,
RCU member Minnflyer had started an Ultra Sport "Lite" build awhile back. I know he got sidetracked by some silly stuff (like buying a new house) so I don't know how much he has gotten done lately. But you can find the build thread here:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2213747/anchors_2213747/mpage_1/key_ultra%252Csport/anchor/tm.htm#2213747

Hope this helps

Ken

I wish I could post of pic of mine, but it is still about 85% complete after having an "incident" with a tree a few years ago. Since I miss it so much, I'm building a new fuse from my plans and have rebuilt the wing. I have to redo the fuse because it got destroyed when my basement flooded last week.

I have had three Ultra Sports and I agree, it is by far the most enjoyable plane to fly. Even pilots who claim that it is an ugly guppy with wings cannot diss on how well it flies.

Come on GP, bring it back!!!! The old design, not the 3D one!

If you love that plane, set it free, if it doesn't return, you should've checked your battery.

Well here's a picture of mine from 1995, I still have her, she's currently in the middle of a resto. I have the fuse totally stripped down to wood, and tail pieces recovered. Looking to start on the wing soon. I had a YS120 on it, but used that engine in my CG Ultimate. I'm now probably looking to put the YS 140 in. She has spring air retracts.

The red and white plane is a heavily modified VK cherokee, an absolute GREAT flying plane. Still have it also, it's 30 years old now. (I'm 27)
