Beautiful job cde!

Suggestion: Use a Bisson Sport Style muffler instead of the stock OS muffler. It is better looking and much lighter.

Where can you get a set of plans for the 1000? I would love to build that one too. I have done the 40 and the 60 and they just get better! I can't find plans or any kits.

The Plans were published in RCM magazine. You can order them from www.RCMmagazine.com

Thanks Mike and Jim. Im looking into the Bisson mufflers...heard good things about the Ultra Thrust mufflers too...any feedback? Here are some more shots with me holding it to give it some scale. I find just taking a pic of it on the garage floor doesn't do a lot in terms of size. The great thing is Im only 5'8 so I make it seem really big!! ha!!

I do not have personal experience with the Ultrathrust mufflers, but they are a tuned system and in theory at least, will increase performance at a specific rpm (full throttle) at the expense of all other rpms (mid-range).

I do have personal experience with the OS 160 and the US1000 and I can tell you for sure that you won't need more top end. The Bisson Sport Style muffler is lighter than the Ultrathrust, but not a lot.

Let us know how it flies!

cde:

I have it on a Twist 150 right now, running an APC 18x6W for accelleration and vertical. In the US1000 I would run a 17x8 for a bit more speed. I ran an ST 2500 in my US1000 and even though that engine had a lot less power than the 160, it was FAST and had excellent vertical. I plan to build another US1000 and put the 160 in it.

I have had the 160 on three planes so far, and none of them has required a pump. If you put the tank back over the CG, you may need a pump, otherwise, no.

OBTW: Yours looks like it has the long wing. The original short wing version has better aileron response, tracks better and is much easier to land. But it isn't technically IMAA legal. You can make yours a short wing by cutting the last bay off each wing.

Thanks Jim, you're right it's the long wing. The kit came with an addendum to cut down the last rib bay. I chose not to for your exact reasoning...I have no plane to fly during our clubs IMAA event so built it at 80". Down the road I guess I can hack off the last rib bay and narrow up the wing per the original RCM design. I'll keep you all posted on the maiden!!! (can't wait

Too bad you didn't add flaps - that is one sweet mod for this plane!

So, do you think you can put a small gasser like a CRRC 26 on the 1000?
