That is a sweet looking plane Hilleyja,,, If you built it or not, you are now the proud owner

And RhyanO,, that is also a sweet job on your US as well,, Nice lines and colors, looks like you spent some good hours sanding that baby, or you hid it well with the wrapping,, either way you should be proud.

Minn,, the 40 is the best of the group??? maybe I should just piece mine back together then,,, I'm sure I will this winter,, I just keep taking on new crafts and projects during the summer then I usually get them all finished over the winter....

Happy flying kids

Minn,
Why is the 40 the best of the Ultra Sports? I had an US 40 and loved it. Thought the 60 might be better, because it's bigger and may fly smoother. Likewise the US 1000. Is there something different about the 40 that makes it better?

Thanks!

What I like best about the 40 is the smaller size makes it seem faster.

Keep in mind that the human eye's perception of speed is how long it takes for an object to travel it's own length. So if a 40 size plane is traveling at 100 MPH it will look like it's going faster than a 60 size plane going 100mph.

MinnFlyer,
Thanks for the reply. I've noticed that also. One of the things I enjoyed about my old US is that it really CRUIZED!! I intentionally put higher pitched props on it to get more speed. Even burned up a .46 2 stroke by leaning it, with too much nitro, just to get more speed out of it. Young and dumb.... Now I'm old and dumb, still like the speed!

In that case, drop a 50ish size engine in it, That's what I did

Nice Job Robbidos That looks great,

Well I have finally Bought my Engine for my US 1000,, it was a long battle, I lost though,, I ended up buying the St 2300, I hope it will be okay, despite all the warnings about it, Everytime I was close to getting the OS 1.60 something stupid would happen and the money had to be put out for something else, so I just bought this to get this project finished. After I see how she flys I will most likely go to the recommended motor in the very near future,, BUt I am Just DIEING TO FLY THIS THING

Lots and Lots of Sanding on this bad boy, My shop & I have been covered in balsa dust for 2 weeks now, but the ship is comming out awesome, I have the wing done and mounted retracts in there, I'm just going to go with the Flaperons on her for now, I just have to start the Mono-coting in the next week and she'll be done real soon after that, I will post the pics when she is done.
Finally after 2 years of procrastination and moving in the midst of it all, I was able to get this baby done,, It has been the longest build for me ever, and it was a farely simple model to build, Just had to get in there and get it done. I've probably spent around 3 good solid weeks on her over the course of 2 years, and 2 weeks were these last 2 weeks,, Thats Bad,,, But I had 5 other models to keep me in the air which didn't help either.

Well, post some pics. I'm finally cleaning up mine and just ordered an o-ring kit for the robart retracts to get this back in the air. Engine is cleaned and lubed and a brand new PCM receiver and MiMH battery pack for it. I'll probably replace a couple of the old servos with some new 3010's or mebby even some digitals. I'm itching to fly it. It's been 3+ years since I last had it in the air.

Is there a certain Set of servos you would recommend for this bird I ususally just use s3004's and have never had a proble, but this is one of the biggest birds I have ever owned. so I've been wondering, I'm going to buy a flight pack for it and a couple of extra servos what would be the best to get for her. I have a Futaba right now with PCM and 6 plane memory, so I need to buy a flight pack anyway. I like to have all my radio channels full so I feel i'm getting the most out of the box

I would be replacing simply because the servos in it are 6 years old and are bushing servos (S148's), not ball bearing. I built it back at a time I had little money. If I were to build today, I would probably use Futaba S3010's. Never had a problem with the S148's other than inaccurate centering as the servos were used.

Here is my recently completed New Ultra Sport 40+. Sorry it's a new one, but I didn't have an older one to build. OS 70, mechanical retracts, 6.2 lbs. Hope it is not too heavy.
