the key to keeping the engine cool is fuel mixture and air flow and this will vary day by day. the xtm .18 can run up to temps of 320 degrees, but i wpold try and keep it around 270-300 range. if its cooler than 270 its to rich, 320 to lean. tuning is somthing you just have to get the feel for. i rarly use a temp gun, i listen to the engine and factor in air temp.
reading the book that cam with ur truck will help to.

and as far as the pipe thing, just because it looks cool doesnt mean its better, I'd stick with the stock pipe. I polished my stock pipe and it looks like a really expensive one and works great

no but if the production is better and the pipe flow, it gives you more performance

I know what ur sayin, but alot of these aftermarket companys are just tryin to make a few bucks and all the have to say is"better performance over stock". for ex. one of the guys i work with has a t-maxx, he bought an aftermarket pipe for it, he could not get it to run right, so frustrated he let me tune on it, even i couldnt get it to run right, so i put the stock pipe back on, i retuned and ran great.

the same applys to companys that make exhaust systems, etc for motorcycles atvs, watercraft, etc some work good others dont, I know this cause i'm an atv, motorcycle and watercraft mechanic(us germans make good mechanics) and have intstalled countless exhaust and performance mods, some work good some dont

anyway, enough of that, this is a fun sport and hobby and experimentation is part of it. trial and error!!!!

happy bashing,
Dennis

I havent really looked for an alum spur gear, i was just planning on keeping the stock one on there, but if i run across one i'll let you know.

Drove the trucks today. 73 degrees f. nice day, broke one drive shaft on the x-cell and two on the t-maxx what a day

Keep a few spare drive shafts on hand for your x-cell

are you sure those temp numbers are correct. I run my at 215 to 230 max. 270 seems like it would over heat to me?
