What's the biggest engine that you could put into a 35% Yak or Edge? I'm just curious because I fly at around 5000ft. elevation and we need a little extra power. Not sure a 100cc engine would perform that well here in a plane that big.

Hello,

Well you have 14" inside the cowl so a 120 would be a beast in it. I know the plane could handle the motor no problem. Let me know if I can help further.

Thanks

John

I guess the only issue then is getting it to balance with a pull-pull set up.

Would a zdz 80 fly the 35% YAK? What is the average weight of the yak?

Thanks Dale

Hello,

The ZDZ would be fine. The single 80 would not. The weights are comming in at 27-28lbs with a 100cc gas twin.

Thanks

John

Anyone flown one yet? I just maidened my buddy's plane today and it had a problem with the rudder fishtailing. His rudder servo (Hitec 5955) may need to be adjusted (turn down the dead band). We tightened the pull-pull cables and it helped a little. The counterbalance on the rudder looks huge to me - perhaps this contributes to the problem? I didn't attempt to fly it over half throttle because of the tail wag. He also may beef up the tray for the rudder servo to eliminate any flexing there. If that doesn't cure it, he'll probably add a 2nd servo.

Hello,

I can tell you its not the rudder or the counter balance. There is flexing, cable issues, not a large enough servo/servos/hinges or maybe the battery setup not alowing enough power. Does the rudder flutter on the ground at full run up? There are planes on the market that have larger rudders and counter balances than our kits. So far our reports from customers flying them is how easy it handles. Let me know if I can help with anything on your setup.

Thanks

John

Update on the Yak. My buddy put a smaller servo arm on the servo and reinforced the servo mounting plate. No tail wag. We think the servo needs to go in for service because it's not adequate holding power at neutral and doesn't have enough power to climb on knife edge. Good enough to fly for the rest of the season....

Yeah, the plane flew very well.

At 27lb. it feels very light & nimble.

I'll try & post some photos & have more info when I have time for T-Bob on the Giant Scale forum.
If he promises to play nice I'll even let him fly it.
