Did you use a muffler or a cannister? I used a muffler in mine and I did mount the tank under the wing tube. Center of tank on the C/G. Anytime I use a pumped engine I will put the tank on the C/G if at all possible.

Hi JR,

Yes, I used a DA (Slimline) Pitts Muffler, and yes it is heavy.

I will keep that in mind about the tank in the future, but BTW would Mike McConvill also agree about mounting the tank under the wing spar?

BR, Mark

Hi Mike,

I got another Extra 260 today (DA 50), and I will try one more time. I really need to know the following:

1) Should I mount the fuel tank at or around the CG? I could mount it on the platform just under the wing tube/servo tray?

2) Do you think going with light-weight Lithium -ions/regulator would be a way to go for both power and weight?

3) On my low/starting rates what would you go with for both expo/travel?

4) Balance at 4 5/8" next to fuse, measured from leading edge next to fuse? or should I balance from wing tips?

5) I guess I am a little "gunshy", but I want to get it right!!!

Thank you for your help.

BR, Mark

PS: If anyone else has any ideas, I would appreiciate you help.

My CG is at 5" from LE at Fuse.....I placed my Fuel tank as close to CG as possible on a platform under wing tube. DA 50 with slimline pitts. My extra is very stable and has no snap tendencies.

Glad you got another 260. Here are my answers:

1) Should I mount the fuel tank at or around the CG? I could mount it on the platform just under the wing tube/servo tray?
I have only monted the tank where its shown i the manual. If your not using a canister muffler, then mounting the tank under the tube on the Cg is fine.

2) Do you think going with light-weight Lithium -ions/regulator would be a way to go for both power and weight?
Yes. Thays whay I do.

3) On my low/starting rates what would you go with for both expo/travel?
Travel per thje manual. Expo. 40% max.

4) Balance at 4 5/8" next to fuse, measured from leading edge next to fuse? or should I balance from wing tips?
Next to the fuse at 4-5/8" back. Thats straight line not around the camber of the wing BTW.

Mark,

My favorite plane extra 260 just installed and I am very surprised with this topic. I just need your and other pro's advise to fly this plane correctly.
I don't want to make any crash or accident during maiden flight.

Please give me advise to following area:

1. Is it possible install YS140FZ for this plane?
2. Where is correct CG position if using YS140FZ?
3. What is recommended expo for Low rate / High Rate?
5. What is recommended throw for Low rate / High Rate?

Thanks guys!

Follow the manual!

The CG is the same regardless of the engine used.

low rate expo 40% to start (max)

Hi Avti,

Yes, I really like the plane, but I will use the forward C/G, but I think the 1.5" servo arms are too long. What Center to Center distance are you using from the center of the servo wheel screw to the ball link?

Also, I am planning on running the Fomeco Lithium Ions and regulator form Radical RC to save a little weight. I am also using the Slimline Pitts muffler, but the unit is REALLY HEAVY. Do you have any alternatives that would be lighter?

BR, Mark

I use just over an inch on the arms and try to make the horns on the aileron surface at least as long. Then I use more travel on the transmitter to get full rate. I usually find that to be more than enough aileron and back it down later. I have been using fromeco lithiums on my larger planes and they have been great so far.

Hi Mike,

I have my 260 completed, and ready for flight tomorrow. At this point, what length servo arms are you using? I am using 1.5" connected as per your manual, is this correct?

Best Regards, mark

Hi Mark,

Just let you know that my Extra 260 has blasting the sky today by YS140FZ and expo low rate 50-60% and high rate 70-75%.
Great planes! very smooth and happy landing. Everyone impressive with this plane during her maiden flight.

I found only one weakness there, the elevator fins, how make they tight with only screw on tube without any glue? Any suggestion?

Thanks for it!

1.25" on the Aileron and Elevator

2.50" dual arm on the Rudder for a pull-pull set up.

Totek & thedak,

I put 3 flights on my EXtra 260 on Sunday, and it flew real fine, except that it took 1/4 inch of aileron trim (up/right), and made 3 perfect landings, also I have about 10 clicks of up elevator. I set my lowrate elevator at 8*, and lowered the aileron to 20% of full rates.

With the plane sitting on the bench, the left aileron is warped up on the tip, and the horizontal stab is at a right/down angle to the wing. I would like to correct the horiz. stab, how would you suggest I fix it?

thedak: I am using SWB 1.5" arms on all surfaces, so what would the measurement be from the center of the servo horn screw to the center of the ball link???

I really appreciate the help!!!!

BR, Mark

PS: I made super smooth landings, but the gear at the bends are delaminating. Any Ideas????
