Just flew my Ace Seamaster yesterday, went well.I was flying a Kombat 40 with floats, but the Seamaster is much better.I have a friend who lives on his own private ski lake, and we fly there,he also has a Seamaster.Hopefully now that we both have good sea planes Iwill get to use it more often.
Mike.

I took a Skyward 40 (like an Eagle) that was in the trash, glued it back together, added some floats which I bought for $10 used, the mounting hardware was custom made for me by someone who felt he owed me something and it is great, and for the last month and a half have been enjoying flying off the water. Not bad for a write-off. So far that's the only one I have but there will be more.

Flying off the water rocks!

I'm between float planes right now but I'll be back soon..

My first float plane was a GP Big Stick .20 with an O.S. .48 Surpass on it, and Gee Bee 40 size floats. I flew it for 4 or 5 years and sold it. Under powered for take off, but other wise a wonderful plane.

Number 2, was a .60 Hots with the same floats and an O.S. .61 FX. I was happy with the way the plane came out but.. solid, and water tight, but I hated the engine, the way it sounded the way it ran, the way the plane looked in the air... and just about every thing else about it.

I fly at a lake in a neighbor hood where the averge home cost over a mil, so I need something that is a little more pleasent sounding/looking.

Plane in the works: I've got a Big Stick .60 kit, and an O.S. 1.20SP . No float picked out.. The engine seems like it might be a little heavy for the kit, so I was completating getting a kit cutter to scale it up a bit..

I've an Ace 60 size Sea Dancer, a CG Eaglet on floats and a Balsa USA Laker and Northstar in the box. There's lots of activity and about a half dozen organized float flys every summer here around Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The float fly season starts right after we get open water and lasts till near freeze up. Then we fly them off the snow. Floats work better than skiis.

I have had several, but my all-time favorite (and the only current one) is the Ace Seamaster. Too bad it's no longer available as a kit.

Bought this one for $25.00 about two weeks ago at a local fly in, What do yall think I should do with it? skins are peeling off of foam wings, thinking about sheeting them with balsa but a friend said that would be to heavy, that I should just put low temp covering on the foam wing and go with it... Any suggestions?????

I think float flying is great. I've got 6 aircraft on floats and fly all of them every year. On a calm day what more can you ask for, unlimited runway and an area of 4 sq miles.. I learned to fly R/C on a float plane that was published in model aviation. A J-3 on floats designed by Fred Reese, sad to say its in cubby heaven now though...

But now on to what I have ...
3 deHaviland beavers all on floats
1 41" with a .18 radial beaver
2 72" with an Enya 50 CX radial to
3 96" with an OS 91 fs Turbo beaver
72" deHavilland Otter with Saito .65
72" Goldberg cub with Enya .90 fs
36" Model builder plans Kingfisher OS .26 fs
The image below is my 96" Turbo Beaver...

Our club has a nice selection of fields...one that is irrigated several times a year is 170 acres and divided into 5 ponds by burms. When each is filled we have 8 - 12 inches of water on 25 acres or more. I have been flying my Ugly Stick with 60 size Great Planes floats for the past few years anticipating the building of the 1/4 scale DeHaviland Beaver with Saito 450, the Zero converted to Rufe by Yellow with BGX-1, and the CL-415 by GP Sales ( a converted 215 with Turbo Nacelles plugged by me and molded by Bill Price) and the J3 60 size with Saito 90T on the Great Planes Floats. I start the CL 415 next month as soon as the current project gets off the bench.

Depends on which area of the country, and how hardy you are. British Columbia, probably year round.Alberta ,the prairies, the central great lakes and Quebec 6months +.The Maratimes and the rock have open water year round.Southern great lakes add maybe one more month.....Its a big country with very changeable weather after September and before May....Just my opinion.....
