The dual Z-bend link for the collective pitch for my Shogun seems to be way too far out from the servo control arm. Did anyone else have this problem. It seems like you need to do one of the following to correct this:

1) put a spacer under the collective servo mounting tabs to push it out far enough to meet the link
2) reverse the collective arm so the link is closer to the servo
3) make a new dual Z-bend link with the Z-bends on opposite sides of the link

I did #3 above (see attached photos, first two from left to right).

I also had to bend the fore/aft cyclic (elevator) link to clear the frame (third picture below)...

Am I missing something here? Or are these just a known problems with the Shoguns??

If anyone has a Castle Creations Phoenix 25 or 35 in their Shogun, I'd be interested in hearing what settings you programmed in... (i.e. soft cutoff or no cutoff, governor mode settings, etc)...

Did exactly the same as yours but found play with the Z bend sliding in and out, so I replaced it with a ball link at the collective servo arm. For the cyclic I use the inner hole in the elevator servo arm so the bend is slight and mostly for clearing the cross member. Also note the tapering cut in both halves of the frame to clear the pushrods.

For ESC I use soft cut off; and I'm still using the curves instead of governor.

Try flipping the collective arm (flip the pivot BB too) so the link is on the servo side. I think that's how it was supposed to be assembled.

as for the binding elevator try this to start:
shave the frame if you have a stock one, if using a CF they probably already left the cut big for this.
put the link on the outside. i am able to get full fore and aft pitch (until it hits the top bearing block) using this method.

yeah the stock shogun has it's share of problems, but they have DIY methods to solve many of them.

im running a phoenix45 but the settings are similar enough. ultra soft start, fixed throtle (since gov mode is whack with 400dh and i dont have a tach anyway), 9v cutoff, softcutoff, standard current limiting (i dont think ill hit 45 amps anyway), no brake, standard timing and pwm.

Thanks!

Nice CF chassis... what brand is it? Looks like you have belt tail drive? How do you like the Align gyro? You can mount it on the side like that?

heliworkz cf frame and belt drive custom made by hubdave
it's a work of art
www.heliworkz.com

i mounted it there and it works perfectly fine. less vibration on the solid CF frame in my opinion (the CF on the heliworkz is very thick too). i have almost 90% gain. tail has lots of authority. i have never tried any other HH gyro so i dont know how to compare it. It beats my old MPG6 gyro for sure.

the align gyro mounts sideways. not facing up like the futabas gy's.

it's ironic that i got all this bling and i cant even hover tail in yet lmao.
im getting there tho....
