Does anyone know the brand and color of the covering? Be carefull when trying to get rinkles out for it does not shrink to well. I have about 30 flights on mine now and it flies great.

I just finished building my YAK 50cc. It will be a bit heavy though with 2 4400 lith-ion and 1 2200 for ignition. I also put a canister muffler and had a hell of a time doing that. I used a DA-100 flex header and installed my engine sideways. I will let you guys know how much it weighs and how it flew next week. This is my first gas plane and my biggest plane so far, so im a little nervous but excited. I but the best everything in the plane. JR2000 receiver, all 5955 servos, Duralite batteries, DA-50, etc.. I bought the equipment that would fit on a larger plane, just in case i ever go bigger. We shall see.

Not sure, it's light, but it definately is a challenge to shrink nice.

installed MVVS 58. weighed everything and it is 17 pounds 6 ounces with out prop and lexan canopy. canopy support was included in weight. so it looks like i'll be a bit over 17.5 pounds dry with this thing. i think this will be a nice introduction to gas.

MVVS 58
3 5645s elevator, rudder
2 645s ailerons
1 625 throttle
1 nes 537 choke
2150 mah nimh
1100 nicad
carbon wing tube
carbon tailwheel
recovered in econokote

waiting on NX 24 10 and canopy

Guys, I just finished putting my Yak 50cc together and I'm concerned about the weight. It came in at 19 lbs.

Here is what I have:
servos: all 5955's for surfaces. jr 811 for throttle. hitec cheapo for choke
Batteries: 2 4000 duralite lith ion 1 2000 durlite for ignition
engine: DA-50
Muffler: Cannister

Bigger engine or Diet? I havent carbon-fibered anything yet. Super 80 looks to be very strong.

is flying it an option, then consider it? i only ask because another guy on here was at 19 and said he liked it. so if you fly it , then you will know what is most important to fix.

Lookin really good whaturi. Nice job on the cowl. I think your gonna be closer to 18lbs. Figure 4 ounces for the prop, I think the canopy is 3 or 4 ounces. Did you include the 2 switches, control horns, fuel tank, yada yada yada

Even still, if it ends up at 18lbs, that 58cc is still gonna be really good on it.

It definitely looks like I made a good decision on giving it a new home. I can't wait to see it fly.

Egads! 19lbs? Something is not right. Do you ned 4000 mah batteries? I run 2 2800s. I did lighten things up and use CF Gear and Tube, and I'm at 17lbs dry. A bigger motor is going to weigh more.

Read over the thread here for some weight saving tips, but that's sounds way off.

lee

I just looked on TBM's web site, that prop is 5.5 ounces. Look back through this thread, I'll bet you can find the weight of the canopy somewhere. Lots of people listed weights for various pieces

I'll bet static thrust will be very close to that 30 pound mark. That is a good looking engine. Don't turn your back when you have it at the field, I may unbolt it and run off

Hope Annabelle is feeling OK

To whaturi I think using a 645 on each aileron might not be enough if you want to do some 3D, And redcow you plane is probably heavy because of the Canister muffler. My plane is around 17 lbs and it still fly's amazing except for doing spins because it wont stall but thats a good thing to. This plane has lots of wing area so it will fly great even at 18lbs maybe not as good as a lighter one but it will still fly nice. Also what props are you guys running because my 22-8 MSC is good but I think the Yak needs more speed cause it fly's really slow, I was thinking of switching to 22-10 so do any of you know who makes a good 22-10 prop. Thanks
