Hi every one,
I just got this plane from one of the hobby shops and this thing looks nice to fly, This is my first gas plane so
I really don't know exactly what is needed. For some reason the plane did not have a instruction manual, which was easy to find.
I'm thinking of getting a DA50, but i already have 5 jr 8511 servos on one of my other planes, I might only buy one 8611a for the rudder and use my 8511 for aileron and elevator. Are the CA hinges strong enough or is it better to change them.

You are suppose to print the manual off their website. Yes it is a nice flying plane. I love mine.

Thanx easton,
I already started working on the plane, but just wanted to know if the jr 8511 servos would be okay for the
ailerons and elevator ???

Im sorry I am not familiar with JR servos maybe someone will chime in on that question. I used Hitec digitals all around. I went ahead and used the ca hinges and havent had a problem. I just do a good check of the plane before flying. Some people might argue that they would not be up to the task. I guess that would be up to what kind of punishment you plan on puting on the plane.

Thanx Easton,
well this is actually my first gas plane, so you all have to bare with all my questions. I just finished putting all the ca hinges together. i'm just waiting to get my Da50 . i got a 800cc which is just above the recommeded 720 / 24oz which seems like a tight fit almost . also not quite sure on what push rods to use. I have a 1.5" jr aluminum servo horns, double sided for the pull/pull.
Since this is my first gas i'm planning to take things easy at the begining as see how it goes from there. my largest plane before this aerotech is the hangar9 funtana100 with a saito125 which i'm planning to give a rest and strip the servos from that plane for the yak.
i'll have some pic posted later....

A question for you all:

For those running a DA-50, what length are your standoffs and what is the measured distance from the firewall to the back of your spinner?

Just bought my YAK from a guy who has a the rudder servo mounted on the tal with a tiller vice the pull-pull set up. Reading through the manual, I cannot fine either the length or distance to get me into the CG range. Until then I can't deide if I want to leave the rudder servo in the back or move it up where it is supposed to go.
Thanks everyone!

I'am using 2.5" standoffs. This gives a 162mm firewall to spinner. I advise caution with the CofG. The manual recommendation was too far aft for comfort. Finalised at 7.9". However required 3300nimh and 6oz lead on standoffs with 2400mm nimh on engine box. Using zimmerman cannister, otherwise fit out is stock. I would consider moving the rudder servo forward.

AUW is a disappointing 19lbs, although the plus side is that the YAK appears well constructed and over 12 months flying durable. The only miss is the covering selection. A good colour match has proven differcult for an undercarriage plate repair and Aerotech have not been able to supply the covering. Has anyone been able to source a good match for the red?

While no 3D lightweight, for IMAC type flying this YAK has not failed to impress.

Thanks for the info. I got a hold of John and he recommended using the 3" standoffs. Looking at your need to add weight to the nose might remove this if I stick the engine out that extra 1/2". I'm going to start very conservatively on the CG as this is my first big gasser. The rudder will have to wait to see how it balances with the servo on the tail. I've had pull-pull in all my other birds and would be a tad more comfy with that setup as well with the weight out of the tail and that far at the end of the fulcrum.

Yes the 3" standoff will certainly benefit the CofG. The spinner is located well forward on the full size and to my eye looks ok.
With regard vibration, i have strenghtened the firewall with aluminum angle. I failed to heed the warning from previous posts and mine loosened in flight cutting the engine. Moving to 3" standoffs i would recommend this mod if not already strenghtened.

Well, it's been almost a year since I posted to this thread and I still haven't finished my Yak. Now that I have started on the project again I have found that my left wing panel has broken ribs under the root sheeting! Every rib under the sheeting has the center busted out of it between the lightening holes. There wasn't any external shipping damage to the box. Now I have to repair that damage plus hinge the ailerons. Then it's a final install on all equipment and ready to go! Life has been spinning out of control and just haven't had the time to go down to the basement.
Yak 54 equipment:
DA/50r
slimline smoke muffler
5 ea. 8611a servos
4 ea. tbm 2500maH LiOn packs
two miracle switches with regulators
2ea. Hays fuel/smoke tanks 16oz.
Sullivan skywriter smoke sys.
Kavan light wheels 4"

my friend used ca hinges, just not the ones in the kit, he used the great planes and the radio south ca hinges, and has had about 30 flights and still no problems. He is a bit weary and checks the hinges all the time but so far no failures.

I used Klett hinges with gorilla glue on mine. Seems to work well. Have to widen the hinge slots with my Slot Machine and wide offset blades then it is a piece of cake.
