Thanks Art103.

Not sure if the heart can take anymore hairy t/o and landings my b'day today so I might have to order a cable and get some safe practise in

Im with you Cheatscalc some of the screws holding the rods are to tight which causes the servos to overwork to change pitch I loosen mine till they're moving smoothly keeping the servos cool and it seems to help with the glitches.

Then again there are some that need tightening as well

where are the metal parts from? are they just shogun or Trex parts? <<<<< They're X-400 (Lichann) Parts modify to use with Walkera #36

What is the heat sink next to the receiver for? Have they move the MOSFET outside the Rx to keep it cool? <<< That heat sink use to modify the original receiver to unlock it. Because walkera's receiver often out of control when you flying. Example : When you hovering for 2-3 minutes sometimes servo will lock to left side of back side and you can't control it. (For original Walkera Transmitter)

the 36 is a mix of shogun and TRex parts. If you go brushless and have the esc completly disconnected from the Rx then you'll get no glitches unless there's a cell phone or bad batts. or interferrence. it also keeps the Rx cooler as it has a lot less voltage going through it.

Heres a question from me for a change..

Does anyone know if a motor pinion gear can be obtained for a #36 to suit an Align 400L brushless motor ?

I have a spare Align 400 and want to build my bare-bones #36 up using this motor, but it has a 3.2mm output shaft, whereas I think the standard Walkera motors are 2.3mm. Is there such a pinion available, or will I have to buy a Walkera motor ?

If so, any opinions on if there is a better choice than the Walkera Brushless ? It seems people with the Walkera brushless sound pretty happy, but I'd be interested to see what else people are using..

you can get a 3.2mm pinion set from http://www.wattsuprc.com.au/product_list.asp?cid=19&offset=40

But it looks like they are out of stock

You can get a range of pinions (2.3mm and 3.2mm) from

http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk

Their website takes some getting used to, but they have a lot of stuff at reasonable prices.
(Plus decent pictures of parts).

P.S.
I don't know if they ship outside the UK.

hey you can get 4 pinnions (9,11,13,15, with grub screws) that fit on this motor perfectly (420LF) yes the shaft is a mm longer but go to GRAND RC and go to heli parts, next go to trex 450X and go to pinnions, look of one that says 11?,13?,15? buy that for $4 and you now have 4 pinnions, don't know why they listed 3 and give four though... in any case it fit's perfectly on the walkera gear and probablythe TRex too. go for it, if you live in the us and us usps you'll get it in 2-4 days as it's a us based company.

I have just bought one of these heli's as my first electric.

I'm generally pleased with it, however i have noticed that the main drive gear is starting to produce a whole lot of white dust and the teeth are looking a little worse for wear. Do i have something set up wrong? I thought i had the teeth on the motor pinion set at the right depth on the main gear, but clearly i don't. Can anyone enlighten me on how this should be set properly so that the main gear doesn't wear through.

Cheers in adavance.

I am having a little difficulty with the standard Walkera Gryo on the #36. I noticed that is looks very similar to the JR G410T (shown below) which has two switches , one for reversing and the second for switching on heading hold. The walkers gyro also has two switches , one labeled rev and the second does not have a label. I have tested the second switch on the walkera gyro and it does not seem to have any effect at all. No matter how it is set, it seems to operate in rate mode. I can tell this because when I spool it up on a smooth floor, the torque spins the heli thru about 45 degrees and the gyro does not return to its original orientation. Is this what heading hold should do? Has anyone else had similar experiences? Keen to get ur feedback before I go out and buy a new one.

I have tried moving that switch both ways and there seems to be little if any difference. It really is hard to tell.

hi man, how do you get the battery in so it reaches the cable attached to the heli?

Mine only goes in one way, with the wire coming out the front, away from the motor, but it won't reach...

I don't want to force it in the other way????

I had to cut the bottom plate, where the battery sits on top of, right off. Then i got a cable tie and made a loop big enough to hold the battery in and put it through the frame. This allowed me to position the battery close enough to connect it all up.

Re: The Pinion question.

Ah yes, silly me.. I actually already have those pinions for my 420LF (from the 'Rex), but I was looking at my soon to be retired #35 which uses a much different pinion - a tall narrow one to engage with the main drive gear and the tail drive gear. I was wonderinf if that type of pinion is available with a 3.2mm bore.

My #36 bare-bones is in the mail, so I didnt realise that it would likely be the same pinion used by the T-Rex. Good to hear it will all fit.

I'd like to know if the Walkera Gyro's are tail-lock/heading-hold/whatever capable as well.

Someone at a club meeting the other day told me they are, and I did notice some differently rudder servo behavious on one occasion. If I moved the tail, the rudder servo would twitch to counteract it, return *almost* to neutral quickly, then slowly moves the last part to neutral. I flipped the unlabelled switch and it seemed to stop doing that.

However, I just flipped it back and did some bench testing and it seemed to behave the same way in both positions now, so maybe I was dreaming or something ?

Does anyone know how you can tell heading-hold gyro behaviour from non-hh behaviour on the bench ?

Pacecalvin,
I suggest you modify your attitude before posting any further.
Nobody has responded to your question directly, and are discussing other topics.
It is quite rude to accuse people of talking rubbish just because they are not answering your question.
It is even ruder not to have read this thread in full, as you would have a much better idea of how to set it up yourself.

Ok, now for an answer to your question:

I am assuming that you are a beginner to helicopters, not just the #36.
Firstly, download FMS and get some practice in. These things don't just take off straight you need to trim it and learn how to take off.
If you read this thread through from the beginning, you will find all sorts of information about setting up, a good site that offers a 10 step training program (free) and all sorts of other good advice.
You could also read the #35 thread too.
I read both of these, and managed to get my heli set up nicely - It took me another 6 weeks to learn to hover.

P.S.
The "yellow thing" it the tail rotor pitch control servo. The big silver block behind and above it is the Gyro that, along with the receiver, controls it.

ok here's my answer. the + goes on the red RX batt wire (patched in) the same with the - and black wire. It doesn't go to the rX except for the servo type wire that's for the throttle. here look at this pic:

I'm not sure how you do it else wise but that's how I do it and it keep the Rx nice and cool.
