Hi Guys

I got a THunder Power charger and and Thunder Power battery, what a difference. The headspeed is much higher and power are very consistent. I can hover much, much easier. But it did caost around $150 for the upgrade, but just so much better.

Then other thing that I suggest is build a better training gear. The one that comes with the kit is not good, too flimsy. The one that I build save so much more accidents.

I was thinking about getting a new gyro to replace the walkera one. But before I go buy a new one, I gave the walkera gyro one last test flight chance to see if it was going to get tossed into the trash can.

I checked over the heli making sure there wasn't any binding in tail and rudder, and tweaked the mounting position of the yellow tail servo so the movement is smooth and centered. I adjusted the sensitivity all the way up on the gyro and headed to the garage for the test flight.

I have to say the walkera gyro works ok, it tries to keep the heli as still as it can, but it does drift off a lil bit. I have good tail movement going both directions. Pushing the rudder stick left and right makes the tail swing pretty fast. I guess my tail rudder wasn't centered or was binding before.

There is a lil bit of a slow tail wag from side to side, from what I can see it's about a half inch wag, so it's not too bad or out of control. After dumping a fully charged 2200 li-po battery pack hovering at about 4-5 feet, I'm having second thoughts about spending over $100 bucks for a new gyro. So I will hold off on getting a new gyro for now.

Has anyone removed the main shaft on their 36? I can't for the life of me figure out how it comes out. I've removed the collective pushrod, head etc and have undone both setscrews on the one shaft collar I can see. The shaft is still very firmly secured by *something* but I don't see where.

Any ideas?

Dear Stormin
My heli was also vibrating.
You need to strip down the entire rotating assembly until there is just the main shaft and swash plate left. I alse undid the tail rotor holder so it just spun on its axis and did not interfere with my testing. Then power up the heil and watch for imbalance. Add a part at a time and balance as you go. I found that my paddles were out of balance and the main arm that the blades attach to was bent. After fixing these problems the balace is much better.
Now to wait for a new tail rotor holder to arrive before I can test the heli again. Grrr

Are you sure you've fully loosened the two screws, I totally removed mine to be sure, the shaft then slides straight out once they are removed, I hope someone at Walkera QC hasnt superglued your shaft to one of the bearing cases, if so strip down everything and seperate the two halves of the frame, its held together by some very small screws, at least then you should be able to see where the problem is. To get the main gear out I found it was necessary to lundo most of the screws holding the frame together anyway, as one of the bearings is held in by the frame itself.

Yeah I removed the two grub screws as well. It is in there solid as a rock! Did yours slide out the top or bottom (or does it even matter?). After popping apart the elevator assembly I noticed also that the tiny screws appear to be identical to the ones that are holding the tiny balls on my mixing arms attached to the washout base. If I hadn't found the screw I was missing I could have pirated one from the frame somewhere I think I'll try taking the frame apart and see what gives (pun intended).

Ok, I stripped the heli right down to kit form (almost).

I've gotten the shaft out now (still quite hard) but There appears to be one piece left on it. It is a sleeve that fit into the main drive gear (cylindrical on top, rectangular on the bottom). Is this meant to be one piece?

The little ball screws appear to be like the ones from the bottom of the heli frame, pitch lever, and elevator assembly not the main frame screws. Bad assumption on my part that they were all the same.

Guys,

Many thanks - will work my way through this list. Did someone say these things were ready to fly?

One final question - in terms of pitch adjustment - the rods attached to the blade holders on my heli are moulded i.e Not adjustable. What therefore is the best way to change the pitch?

Stormin

PS The vibration problem is actually at nearer 70% throttle - clearly at a time when the heli should be airborne so I'm wondering if this may be more to do with the blades just beating the air to death

Are you sure they aren't threaded? You should be able to tweak the pitch (per bladed) at two points. The upper mixing arms to the blade holders, and the lower mixing arms to the upper (from the washout base). If yours is setup like mine the lower arms are connected to the outside of the upper arms, with the connection to the blade grips in the middle (between this connection and the pivot). This should make the grip - upper link have more effect on pitch and the lower-upper have a more fine-grained change on the pitch.

If you need to adjust the pitch overall then use the pitch control rod/pivot/servo underneath the gears to achieve the right +- balance mechanically.

The grub screws are the little hex jobbies inset on the shaft collar that I think was right under the gears (Mine is at home in more than a few baggies right now).

that's where mine are, they're little black inserts, like the screw on the tail blades and the shaft.

even thought I have balance the blades, checked the CG, there was still evident vibration at 20-30% throttle and I found out that the cause of the vibration was due to the swashplate not being round, its slightly off round and when it turns it make vibrates the whole heli. I have no solution to this...

Wow, that's a new one. My solution would be to purchase a new swashplate (and if you are feeling a little more spendy, going with an upgraded one). :/ Poor solution I know. Are you sure the shaft isn't actually bent a bit?

I have been trying to track down a somewhat local supplier that doesn't charge an arm and a leg w/o a lot of luck yet. The good news is that a shogun swashplate should fit fine.

pic's?

look for swashes off grand RC it's a retailer located in the US, and it's 17.00 dollars in the shogun section, I do think your shaft is bent, or maybe you've broken a tooth on the main gear.

Hi,

My W 36 now have a gyro problem. Please let me know if you have any suggestions, or solution. Right now, I am still in the hover stage. So lately I notice that when I hover the W36, the first few minutes it's hovering fine, then out of nowhere the heli just spins like crazy and I notice that afteward the gyro's led light is blinking. Which tells me that it was shut off while the heli is in mid-air. Any suggestion, or explanation? Thank you.

If its flashing fast, then its doing a power-up reset, probably due to a momentary power-failure from the receiver regulator.

Check for binding servo's and other things that will overload the BEC regulator and cause it to shut down. this is very common. You can remove the receiver from its case, and heatsink the regulators that should help. sometimes just getting them out in the air where they can dissipate some heat will help too.

If its flashing slow, then it has lost the signal from the transmitter.. check your antenna, make sure your Tx batteries are charged all that sort of thing. Its more likely to be the power glitch though..

Hi,

My gyro is flashing slow, so I guess is the transmitter lost signal. Any solution to that, or do I have to replace it?

take it off and try again, there's not much you Can do. it sounds like either the Rx shut off like it's prone to do, or the Tx shut off if it shuts off again check and see if the ESC is too hot. Also it could be drawing too many amps. Just put a new set of batteries in it they should last around 50min.
