I'm looking at putting this engines in a seagull 120 size Laser 200. I'm currently running the ST G90 on a Magic Formula 3D and was wanting to know if there is any difference in the running of the G-2300 compared to the G90? Does it need to have any kind of ignition switch or any extra goodies to fire this baby up? How reliable is this engine? Does it start as easy as the G90? Any other info about this engine would be nice.

I run mine for speed. I have a couple G90's and they are great in a Shoestring and another plane. I have this 60 size P-51/Voodoo that I was going to put another 90 in but chose the 2300. Very powerful engine. I swing a 14/14 prop on it and the torque allows me to sustain my rpms.

Should be pretty good with a traditional low pitch 3d prop.

ST learned how to make a big glow engine work, long before OS did.
OS makes the better carb for it. The OS 7D with midrange mixture adjustment paired to the ST2300 engine is about the best combo you will ever find. An 18x8 prop, or similar propload will do just fine with 5-10% fuel.
This engine can rev up to 12000, but behaves just at well at 7000.

I love mine! It takes some breaking in (3-4 gallons for me) But it's been reliable the entire time... I tried mine on the low Nitro (5 and 10%) But my engine just didn't like it.. Now I'm Running Coolpower 15% and it loves it.. I have a Bisson Pitts Muffler on mine and it sounds great! Swings a mezjlik 18X6 Carbon Fiber Prop at 9,500+RPM Still on the rich side!

Most people at my field run O.S.'s.. I bring this baby out and while they're fiddling around with there engines I fire up and taxi out... Now there's about 5-6 new Super Tigre's at the field!

If you do a good long break in.. NOT EXCESSIVLY RICH! It will last a long time and be reliable.. Mine has over 10 gallons of fuel through it and I've had ONE deadstick landing due to sucking in a bug.. If your using a starter to start it here's my procedure:

1.) Prime it real good... Like Fuel coming out of carb good
2.) Flip it over 6-7 times without Glow heater
3.) Attatch Glow heater
4.) Spin her on the starter!

Be Careful cause at a low-idle when starting you may not hear the engine has actually started so when you pull the starter off to check things out and the prop keeps turning it can surprise you.. After the first start of the day you can skip the priming faze all together IF you don't run it completely out of fuel.. Just flip it 2-3 times and put on the glow ignitor.

Mine starts as soons as the starter turns it through the compression stroke so I'm learning to Hand flip it... Look for my post in this forum..

I hope this helps! Good Luck!

is this the carb you speak of?

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCA14&P=ML

im assuming it will bolt right on with no modification. Are there other alternative carbs from OS that can be used? Doess the 7D facilitate a RNV? I have a friend rebuilding his 2300 and we have new bearings and thought about a new carb

I peronally would not spend 65+ for a carb when the stock one worksjust fine once you spend a little time with it..

I say just keep the stock carb and spend the money elsewhere.. Like props, pump, regulator etc etc..

IMHO

Regards

Thanks for all the info guys. Sounds like another good engine from Super Tigre. Can you guys give me a link to a motor mount that you used for the G-2300?

Hmmm... Not sure where to find it but I used the stock mount that came with my Utra Stick Lite.. Heavy metal one though.. Good for noseweight if needed.

No it is not.
The 7D Heli carb has mid-range adjustment.
If you are interested in saving some money, and getting the original ST just right, you get more power, and excellent overall performance when you follow the method outlined at http://home.wanadoo.nl/pereivers/woes/preamble.htm
When there, also visit http://home.wanadoo.nl/pereivers/regulated_fuelsupply/a_regulated_fuel_supply.html to get the best of all worlds. Absolutely fabulous response in all plane attitudes!

Does the carb from the 160fx fit the neck on the ST?

Whats a good 3D prop and sport prop for the G-2300? The specs give a Suggested prop size: 18x8, 18x10. Those are $20.00 a pop.

I use a Mezlik 18X6 CF Prop.. But if your complaining about the $20 for the others you dont want this one ($60)..

i'VE USED THE apc 18x6 and its HEAVY! Spool up's are slow but since it has a reaaaallly wide blade you get excellent thrust.

Menz 18X6 did not perform as I would have liked... it didn't have the pull of the APC or the Mezlik..But was still a good prop.

Read this on the Super Tigre.

This guy knows what he is talking about.

I have some Tigre motors that I have set-up this way and they pull like an OX.

the 2300 is not designed or intended to run on low lube percentage fuel that you use in bigger tigers like the 3250 and above. use regular glow fuel like omega 10%, the same fuel that you use for the g90. the manual for this engine specifically states not to use low lube fuel in the 2300.

i have the chinese 2300. the carb on this engine is superb. there is no way i would put another carb on this engine. this carb is as good as the carb on the os61sf, which i ran for several years. when i broke in this 2300 i ever had to touch the idle needle- it was set perfectly from the factory. the engine runs very well and nowhere in its throttle range does it go noticeably rich or lean. i would say this engine is as good as they get.

the 2300 has the same power as the saito 150 for less than 1/2 the cost. my 2300 turns the apc 16-8 prop 9100-9200 rpm on the ground. the hangar9 site says the saito 150 turns this prop 9000 rpm. plus the 2300 does this on 10% fuel. i am using regular size fuel line and a standard fuel tank.

so i certainly intend to buy more of these fine 2300 engines. especially for 120 size warbirds.
