Hi Guys,
I thought I would drop an update about my new jet, the Jacknife. Some of you saw her fly at Mississippi Afterburner this past May. If you missed it, hang on, I'm slowly working my way around the jet circuit. I flew 3 flights on it last weekend. Now, this is the part that will upset you, I fly from a paved aux runway that is 150' by 5000' This is nice in those less than perfect scenarios. The wind was about 20mph, 90 degrees cross to the centerline. I was a bit hesitant about flying, but needed to know how the "super jet" would handle these conditions. We paced off 100 steps and placed our marks. Thanks to my great assistant and video guy Rudy for catching the original error I typed in of 300 paces, that's not very impressive distance. 300-350 feet is. We wanted to know how little of space was needed to operate such a large jet. The power was applied to the At-450 and the jet rolled past me standing at mid-point and lifted off with room to spare before reaching the end of our mark. A solid ten minute flight was enjoyed and now the moment of truth. A fly by at reduced power to drop flaps and gear check. Power up for the go-around dirty, set-up for the approach aiming for centerline, and hold my breath. Wait, this can't be right, it's NOT doing anything ugly or miss-behaving. She weather-vaned as expected, which was very comfortable. I flew her down the centerline to within a couple of feet of the runway, nailed the rudder to straighten things up a bit, and greased her in and hit the Glennis brakes, which performed flaw-lessly, and was stopped with-in the 300 paces. I thought this was luck, until I repeated the whole thing on the next 2 flights. Ok here it is. This is BY FAR the biggest( duh) and easiest jet that I have ever flown, that has geat performance at both ends of the envelope, and looks sexy I think. The flame out on that inverted pass at MAB was due to a leaking hopper tank that sucked air when I rolled inverted. The outcome was text book with a dead stick landing in front of us on the run way. I will have some pics posted soon if you haven't seen it yet, and possibly some video that we shot at MAB. There will be no changes to the production model that will be available shortly. This jet will easily fly with any 25 +lb turbine, as most of my first flight at MAB was at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle and the loops and C-8's were as big as you would probably want. Stay tuned for more, or email me for more info, specs, or a demo DVD which is now available. Blessings...she's a keeper!!

Jack,

Glad to see that your brain child is growing up well. Looks like you have a very good jet design. Would like to see some video.

Another reason why Texas should become a Republic.

Jack, could you fly it 200mph +, it must be impressive.

Some similar lines, but it's quite a bit "skinnier" than the predator.

Looks like a normal "Jack Holland" kinda paint scheme - didn't he have a Raptor with the same kinda scheme ?

I wouldn´t use the word "skinnier" (sounds like the plane was under his ideal weight, LOL) perhaps
hmmm.. sleeker?

If you are into Giant Sport birds, Jack has one for you.....saw Jack put it thru the paces at MAB......very sweet with that Oly at 1/3 throttle most of the time......should be a mach buster with any 35 lb or more blower on it.....carries lots of fuel...

Here a few more pictures of the prototype I originally posted in the MAB thread...........

By the way, Jack makes a very nice, slim, 64 oz tank for the KingCat that replaces the stock 16 oz tank that comes with the kit....use for more fuel or smoke oil.....comes with BVM fittings and clunk installed....

Russ, seems to me I saw a price in the upper 7's for a composite kit, not cheap, but what I saw was really first class stuff. It really did fly as well as claimed here. It's no BS one of the most awesome turbine jets I've seen.

yes, he is ofering it also pretty much ARF .. on the gear ready for radio and turbine instal. For the size and quality of this bird, what Jack is asking is a super deal ..

This muther funker flew like it was on a rail. Most axial roll ive seen. And talk about slow flight. It was so slow I couldnt hear the damn engine running. Landings looked like a breeze.
Beautiful flyer.
Would be perfect with a P180.

Thanks for all the great pics from Pat and Tom. You guys helped me out here more than you'll know. Just a litte background on th Jacknife. I needed something to replace my Raptor, but wanted something bigger. Since my "parting" with CAI, I decided to "do" one bigger and sleeker than the Predator. I didn't care for the "short" stance it had, and wanted a wing thick enough than wing "blisters" weren't necessary. I personally do NOT like flex plates, so they were "outa here" in the design. Robarts 635's handle the gear issue, and Glennis has out-done themselves on the OCC style mags that I'm usings. I really would like to sell this jet as a true ARF with a JR digital servo package installed, sitting on it's gear package, hinged, and in base color or a full meal deal Holland paint job. The kevlar fuel system carries 240 ozs. of fuel. I hit my 10 minute timer after the back-taxi, and landing as the timer zeros itself. Upon taxi back, I will normally have 30-40 ozs of fuel remaining. This would give enough fuel for go-around if you needed it. The 3 flights mentioned earlier were effortless in the cross-wind, and a touch-and -go was performed with-out a hitch. We don't see many of this manuever anymore for some reason. Most folks want to get them down, and keep them down.lol The specs are 104" length, with a 95" span The honest dry weight is 42 lbs on the prototype, and I can assure you ...with Phil, and Eddie backing me on this laughing, that it is "slightly overbuilt" maybe??? But with a AT450 in it, you certainly don't mind a little extra helping of beef here and there! Clear canopy and wing tanks/pylons will also be offered. More as it developes.
