Hi Wotan,
Haven't heard from you in quite a while. Sorry to hear about your difficulties. It does sound like you need to replace the Rx/ESC unit. I would also invest in two replacement servos. I've had a couple of servos that seemed undamaged after a crash, and seemed to work OK when testing on the ground, but when the plane was flying and the control surfaces had moving air acting on them, they did not function properly. Also check that the bracket that holds the servos has not come loose. There is a tiny screw that hold the bracket from sliding on the stick and if the screw comes loose, the bracket shifts when you try to actuate the servos. I replaced the screw with a larger one and never had that problem again.

Not sure what you mean by "...if now might be the time to install a new ESC unit and then jump over to the control."

I wouldn't worry about the different motors at this time. If you fly the plane with the optional 7 cell battery, you will have plenty of power from the stock motor. Just move the wing all the way forward; also use the high rate control setting. Get used to flying the plane with this set-up, and when you finally are flying so well that you are getting bored, play around with the other motors.

I know that you have a lot of time and money invested in the Slow-V. But if you have gotten really frustrated with it, consider the HobbyZone SuperCub. You can get a new one for $169, or you can probably get a decent one from HobbyDealsUSA, on e-bay, for around $100. Every beginner who has posted about this plane absolutely loves it.

Leo

i am intersted in a new plane, i currently own the slo v and i am very comfortable flying it in reasonable wind (i have just got in from a flight in strong wind and rain with no damage) and i was wondering if any more experienced flyers could recommend a better plane that is cheap (as i am only 15) and coud use the slo-v's electronics or is rtf.

i do not mind spending some money (but i do not have much) on stronger servo's but radio gear is too expensive

I would suggest that you consider getting the SuperCub. The transmitter is almost the same as the one that you have gotten used to from the Slow-V. Go on e-bay and do a search of RTF planes; you should be able to get a decent SuperCub for a good price.
