Mods-R-Me -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (10/24/2007 9:20 PM)

You definitely have my respect. I'm still in the early CAD stages of my CNC Mill so I'm watching your thread with earnest [sm=49_49.gif]; particularly the panel lines. What is you CAD technique for drawing them on the model? Also, what CAM software are you using (Mastercam, SolidCAM, etc)?

Thanks,

Mods

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (10/24/2007 9:25 PM)

I use catia.

panel lines are basically projected curves on surface

here is the video of the landing gear working...

You're amazing...

wow what an amazing project keep up the good work. i look foward to seeing it finished!!

wings_of_fire -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (11/27/2007 1:21 PM)

its an awesome project . U r work is smart & organised.
please don,t mind me asking ur qualification, I would like to know it.
I remember reading it earlier tht u were going to use carbon fibre & kevlar!

regards,
Pradeep

I am basically generalist engineer.

I wanted to use CF and KF but I might change little bit this idea not because of cost but because of radio signal interferences issues.

wings_of_fire -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (11/27/2007 6:40 PM)

how much does 1Kg of CF & KF cost in ur place (according to grades) respectively ?..

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (11/27/2007 6:56 PM)

i buy it in france...there is not price per kg but price per sqm variable from item to item...

200g/sqm is approx 40 euro.

acepilot121 -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (11/27/2007 9:35 PM)

i have two questions, how did you obtain catia? was it supplied to you through work or did u buy it on your own?
did you gain any progrees since ur last post with pictures?

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (11/28/2007 10:48 AM)

got it from a friend.

no progress because I moved to an other house and I am still busy setting the house.

wings_of_fire -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (11/29/2007 3:48 PM)

how were u able to create the surface design for the raptor in catia ?[sm=confused.gif] were did u obtain the dimensions for tht?
I see u started of with the wire frame , but where did the wire frame dimensions come from? [sm=confused.gif]

thnx! [sm=teeth_smile.gif]

It was a lot of work. Go here on his site: http://www.raptor-rc.fr.st/

madfreestyler -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (11/30/2007 8:16 PM)

Awesome project i want to do this someday, just need the skill.

What is the advantage of making the plug using traditional construction over getting the 3d model routed out in blue foam. (probably a stupid question but im new to this and still trying to learn the basics)

Also what cnc router did you use to cut the parts?

Good luck with the rest of the project!!!!

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (11/30/2007 9:42 PM)

I used skinning technique over cnc milling because I wanted to have more freedom on how to modify the shape while making it. also at the time I did the airframe I was not good enough to do this process (not sure I am now lol).

regarding the router...i designed and made it also myself...

bruce88123 -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (11/30/2007 10:10 PM)

His router plans are available on his web site if interested.

madfreestyler -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (12/1/2007 1:43 AM)

hpghost, any thoughts on producing a kit for your cnc?

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (12/1/2007 1:48 AM)

unfortunately no.

wings_of_fire -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (12/7/2007 5:49 PM)

do u have a CAD model for any rc jet engine ?.

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (12/7/2007 6:48 PM)

only a rough external view model I made in order to place it in the raptor but not really a model

wings_of_fire -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (12/29/2007 1:49 AM)

Hey buddy hpghost how r u ?
can a sketch tracer file be imported in any other CAD software? If yes what file format ? I use Unigraphics Nx-4

thanks

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (12/29/2007 10:07 AM)

sorry but I have not the answer to your question...

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (1/11/2008 10:26 PM)

hi guys,

after some time without post, here is the latest developments.

chevypower1930 -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (1/11/2008 10:47 PM)

I dont even wanna know how much this is costing including all the CRAZY equipment your using haha GREAT build your amazing.

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (1/12/2008 9:07 AM)

cost is not important at the moment (in a certain frame let's say). only result is!
90% of the fun is building the plane...
