hi,

here is some new update on my jet!

I am building the rudders stab, and wings this week.

I am also making the mold for fuel cells

phantom_najd -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (3/4/2008 8:12 PM)

Man this is awesome! I've on and off your site for couple of years now; didn't know about this thread. I would like to congratulate you on the excellent workmanship! And I hope we can buy some kits soon :)

Azzam

I'm thinking the F-22 will be retired/obsolete before this one flies.

Just kidding.[:D] It's worth the time to do it right.

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (3/5/2008 11:14 AM)

If things goes well and can stay in my house where I have nice workshop, then I beleive prototype will fly before summer... if I have to move, then it will delay my plans...

next weeks I will update the post with wings, rudders and stab finished...got one issue with rudders and stabs at post curing (temp too high and not progressive enough so I have few bubbles on gelcoat which I have to repair to get a clean surface. Except that little deffects (corrected on next parts) the edges are perfectly strait (which confirms that my halves molds done by CNC are right! and the shape is exactly symmetric as expected.

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (3/8/2008 12:30 AM)

here are the pics of the result of my last progress...

I did 2 rudders (small issue with post curing making bubbles on gelcoat...had send then), one stab, and 2 temporary wings just to see how they fit with airframe (they are made of polyester resin and the finish is...not good but not so important for now).

also finished the mold for fuel tanks. nice one!

no more progress expected in coming weeks as I will be very busy...

enjoy...

amazing progress.

I wish i had access to tools like that to begin my project

blunderbum -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (4/9/2008 4:24 AM)

Firstly your work is truly awesome and I am amazed at your progress.

I am new relativilty new to this composite mouding stuff and have a question for you.
Why do you CNC out the positives? Wouldn't it be better to CNC the negative into moulding material. The reason I am asking is because I am just about to do that for my own project.

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (4/9/2008 12:34 PM)

I am doing the positive because it is for me easier to see some impefections of my modeling and also, for certain sharp edges if it was negatve mold , due to tool diameter, I would not get the result I want.

last but not least, the material milled is wood so then it is molded as a negative made of resin.
if it was aluminium then it could be ok

Proper finishing is difficult if you begin with a negative as well.

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (4/19/2008 12:47 AM)

ok,

after lots of delay (ssssoooo busy with lots of other stuffs), here is a nozzle which I will use to make a mold.
I am also working on some other parts...pics will come later.

I also ajusted and fixed the rudders on the airframe (they are removable).

mazeetwazaad -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (4/24/2008 7:20 AM)

what options of catia did you use to make your 3d model. freestyle? generative shape design? others?

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (4/24/2008 8:38 AM)

generative shape design

mazeetwazaad -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (5/4/2008 6:28 AM)

wow. ive been experimenting with generative shape design making a f-22 as well. and must say its a lot more difficult than it seemed from videos ive seen and ur project but it looks worth it.

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (5/4/2008 8:33 AM)

yes it is very long and difficult, especially when you are not expert!

bela -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (5/5/2008 9:31 AM)

Wow Reno, Your baby looks just like mine!

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (5/5/2008 11:43 AM)

I will soon work again on the plane and send some progress pictures...

jerryflyguy -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (5/7/2008 9:20 PM)

HP, I'm curious as to what material your using there to machine out the exhaust nozzle. It looks like plaster or something?

Thnks

J

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (5/7/2008 9:29 PM)

yes this one is a master mold made out of plaster...

jerryflyguy -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (5/7/2008 9:59 PM)

So are we talking plain jane from the hardware store plaster or something more exotic. I'd always thought that plaster was hard on the tools [end mills] and bearings in CNC stuff??

Thanks sir!
J

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (5/7/2008 11:06 PM)

plaster from paris...s il vous plait!

typical plaster. just it need to be done well in order to be perfectly dry (ie no excess of water in the mix) otherwise mill will just dirt all your cnc

projetsquale -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (5/8/2008 4:28 PM)

Hello,

I follow your work from some month and that's a very great projet. I'm sure that this Raptor will be fabulous in flight.
I'm working me too on a big rc-jet that's not based on a real plane but a full original concept inspirated by US stealth planes.
I used me too Catia V5 and it's a very good tool for conception and I have the experience of my work for use it.

I want to install on my model vector nozzles similar to the F-22. You have make some videos of your work but the link is broken. Where can I see these videos?

Thanks in advance and continue your superb work.

Regards

Flo

Some pictures of the project below: Simplified concept and final desin still in progress

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (5/8/2008 5:25 PM)

don t have anymore the video if link is not there anymore.

hpghost -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (5/8/2008 9:29 PM)

here is a setup I made with the CNC in order to modify my wings. I will use those to make final molds and modify them to tube fixing instead of carbon bar (cheaper and easier for mold maintenance).

mazeetwazaad -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (5/13/2008 12:15 AM)

nice design. looks like it would fly very well.

makes me even more determined to finish designing my stealthy su-27

projetsquale -> RE: f22 raptor-rc work on progress! (5/14/2008 5:58 PM)

Thanks for your congratulations

A lot of work is necessary until the first flight. May be in one or two years if I 'm lucky and I have no troubles.
