John,

couple of comments regarding this plane. Installing a DA150 with cannisters, two 8611 rudder servos mounted in the tail. Did my final balance checks before mounting batteries and covering only to discover it needs 12oz. of lead in the tail to balance. That one really threw me because most planes come out tail heavy.

The other comment is regarding the wings. I haven't sheeted them yet but noticed with the hot wire cut for the wing tube on top (which is how you have them labeled) the wings have a pronounced droop, but if I flip them left to right and right to left the wings look better. Should I be concerned?

Hello,

No the wings are cut correctly. The slit in the top for the phenolic tube is the top of the wing. Also I have never balanced a plane without it the wings finished on the plane. It is safe to go 1"-1 1/2" behind my mark on the plans. We also dont run servos for the rudder in the rear of the fuse. Its a long tail moment and moving servos that far back can create some small challenges for the CG. Below is one latest customer comments concerning the same plane. Let me know if I can help further.

Thanks

John

Status: offline Hi guys today we went out to put this baby through some tests day 2 in the air was well so so the plane flew incredible herier pass was slow and steady it hovered like like it was hung from the ceiling the rudder needed little bit of coupling on Knife edge Herier rols no problem it was rock steady in most 3 D menuvers but it was slopy in IMAC menuvers it needs aileron defrential and some rudder coupling for most IMAC rols and snaps 4 pointers and specialy knife edge menuvers ...........................the air was so humid and hot the engine was I would say at 80% and on the second flight I had a dead stick this plane is so huge I could not judge how far away we were, my spoter told me to go around, and that was a big mistake so I just had to put her down in the corn it was so far out I should have gone with my instincts and just head for the runway but it just flew in to the corn with a lot of flair and after we spend almost half an hour looking for it it had no damage at all only striped the gears of the left elevator servo

I hung my Aeroworks 39% wings on the plane for my CG check John. This plane is most definetely nose heavy. I'm really surprised that it is too. I weighed all of the wood and put the light stuff towards the back and the heavier wood on the front of the fuse. I was also able to remove 6.5 oz. of wood out of the tail in anticipation of a tail heavy plane.

Hello,

I think you should hang your completed wings on the fuse that came with the kit. The aeroworks is a smaller plane and the wing may not be in the same position weight etc. Its hard to comment since I dont have it here. I would reccomend you finish the plane and then check the CG before perminently placing all you components.

Thanks
John

John, I just got done haning the wings on the plane and measured the full length span at 118.5". It's no big deal but I thought this was supposed to be a 121" WS.

Hello,

I could have cut off a liitle too much off the tips. The cores are generally 55"each and the fuse is 10.5 in's them with the caps it make 121". But it will be fine as you have it with no problem. I will exchange them if you want no problem.

Thanks

John

What about putting a 3W-157 in this bird? Are two servo's per aileron ok or do you need three?

Hello,

Ive seen the 157 and it has plenty of power. The airplane at 39-40lbs does very well on a 150. So adding the 157 will just make your power to weight even better. We have two servos per aileron. If your major 3d use 3. Let me know if I can help further.

Thanks

John

Rich,

Are you saying the dihedral is wrong?

Well the plane has been done for some time now and I sheeted the wings with the hotwire cut on top as stated on the cores and it looks fine.

The customer will be picking the plane up later this week and we'll maiden it sometime early next week.

Rich

Well thanks for all the compliments guys. This was my first Aerotech kit but I'm sure it won't be my last. Well designed, quality wood, glass and a price tag that is easy to swallow. The next Aerotech will be MINE though if I can help it.

I was reading the Carden vs Aerotech thread and was amused that some said the Carden will outlast any other kit. In reality, the Aerotech will last many, many years if built properly. Shoot, I'm still flying my 6 year old Aeroworks 37% Extra (lightly crashed 3 times torque rolling) and it's still going strong and it's not NEAR as stiff as this Aerotech Edge is. I used West Systems for the complete fuselage build so I know this thing will last forever if not crashed. I still don't know what they mean when they say Cardens last longer than anything out there. They're so biased they can't see the forest for the trees I guess.
