I found this airplane for $430 new in the box. After everyone's experience, would you do it again if you could get it for $430? I am torn on whether I want to buy it or not...............Thanks

Absolutely!

Hey Fellas,
Maidened my Jug last Saturday. Flying with a BCMA 45cc Homelite converted to EI. The motor was a little cantankerous but after fiddling with the needles and changing the plug she ran okay with a Bolly 20x10. On landing, one of the Shinden struts folded where it inserts into the retract. The aluminum where the break occured looked like the casting was of poor quality. Larry at Shinden is replacing them FOC! (Free Of Charge). Today, I put a JZ 20x5 four blade on and the engine absolutely loved it! I figure the heavier prop is acting like a flywheel Max rpm was 6032 and idle was a tad under 1500. Static thrust was great and the sound was noticeably deeper with the four blade. Did not get to fly today however due to wind but maybe next weekend.

Happy Flying!

Just wrapped up my tailwheel. All I've got left is to do is solder the little washer in place(the one in the pic) and my steering arm on the top of the pivot. I made it from scratch with some parts found at the hardware store and in the parts box and a little G10 material. Cost about $10 to build. The main swing arm is half of an aluminum turnbuckle with a hole bored down through it for the steering arm/axle assembly. A tight fit and a couple of roll pins and she's in for good. On to the next item.....

Once again you have amazed me Maximus! This is very cool and you will have to keep us posted. I have gotten my engine box cut down and I made a new firewall. I have mounted the DA to it now I just have to set the firewall on to the plane. If I new how to post pictures I would put some on here. Soon I will be painting the cowl with black and white checkers. Does anybody have any tips or tricks that will help me with this as I am very nervous. I don't want the paint to seep under the masking tape like it did on the last thing I painted.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike go to a automotive paint store they have plastic tape that is better for taping off stuff you want a clean line on. The kind I buy is by 3M and is blue in color. Electrical tape also works but I like the blue stuff better mainly because it keeps its shape better. Both work better than masking tape for this kind of taping.

Pretty easy to make really. Just took a little bit of think'in. I just couldn't find anything that would fit that well or wasn't $150. I'm just a poor lineman you know! I will use one of the original pushrods for the tail surfaces to operate it. It will have it's own servo that will be "Y" 'ed in with the servo that will operate the inner gear door air valve. Now to figure out how to tie the tailwheel gear doors to it. If isn't one thing it's another. Pics will follow when it's successful.

Later,

Maximus

Thank you warks. Will I get better results using an airbrush or rattle can? Does anybody know the best way to mask off the whole cowl in a checker pattern. Will I have to make a lot of masking tape squares and then align them perfectly, or is there a better way?

Thanks agian to all you have been a big help,
Mike

I did this cowl by painting the white, then I used vinyl squares for the checks. Fibnally clearcoated the whole thing.

That looks like it turned out pretty good Capt G. If there is any way I would like to avoid cutting out individual squares. I did this on a somthing extra and got sick of it.

Thanks,
mike

That's what I did on the cowl flaps. Wasn't TOO bad, but sort of boring...
