Franz Walti from Switzerland lost his Rafale today in a giant fireball. This is the second competition plane that is a total write off. Very sad

Cute local girl wanted to pose with a model.

Ian Russel from England owns the Eurofighter. Another plane that crashed, but is currently being repaired and may be back in competition

Sorry Dick, did not see your question.

No, we have to stay behind the judges for photos now. That is why you primarely see take off and landing shots, since it is the only time the planes are close enough to get a good detail shot. For safety reasons, the flight maneouvers are kept on the far side of the runway, so we don't get as many chances at taking good shots as we do at events like Top Gun and Florida Jets. The sun is a big issue also. After 12 noon, it is very difficult to get a shot that is not too harsh or washed out.

My favorite shooting condition is when the sun is getting low behind the flight line in the afternoon. unfortunately, here it is directly opposite conditions.

Mig 29 from Ukraine.

ShssT Strurrer -

I trust that this answers the question of why the need for 300mm or more. A fixed Focal Length will obviously outperform a Zoom Lens in terms of picture quality and/or resolution 24/7. However, if you can't see the image, it's difficult to capture it. It goes without saying that a Zoom is a compromise between quality and ability that I'm willing to accept. After all, it's only a hobby right?

Your position is well founded and appreciated though.

Jack

Jack -

I hear you Amigo.

I bought my first NIKON product, an FTN (35mm) at the Base PX in Long Ben (Vietnam) in 1970 and subsequently purchased some additional Lens's at the China Fleet Club while on R&R in Hong Kong or Kowloon if I remember correctly, the following year. I've been a dedicated NIKON customer ever since because it's just hard to argue with success.

Come to think of it, there probably aren't too many camera buffs out there who have a 35 year + affilliation with one manufacturer and are still as young as I am. Of course, that doesn't count my father who bought his first Leica while stationed in Germany in 1947.

BTW, have you got those semi-on-board Propane tanks under control these days? I'm referring to the one that came shooting across our Tent at FL Jets awhile back when we were pitted next to you.

Adios.

John

Thanks for your efforts to have the photo shots restored so quickly, I didn't even get time to notice they were down! Thanks also to Sean for providing facilities, hope he does't mind the 3am phone calls too much. At least he has air-con!

Can I say, and I am sure many will agree, that your photographs have brought the JWM alive. It was always a remote event in the past and all we would get was the magazine report and video a month or so later with some shots from site if you knew where to find them.

Of course it's not as good as being there, but it's the next best thing with the shots being available so quickly and of such stunning quality.

These models really are something else. I look forward to being able to buy you a Guiness or two in Northern Ireland in 2007. I was going to say bring a warm filter, but I expect you can do that now with your editing package!

Kindest regards

john

a well i am ok i guess

the doctors managed to re-calibrate my own pump to a nice 60 bpm and a pressure 140/80 by using beta blockers
also i have a nice bottle of nitro-glycerine to keep with me
seems the turbine also starts on that stuff , so if anyone has heart problems or a non starting turbine ask a heart patient for the Nitro

still have some problems in concentration
flying is difficult sometimes brain knows where to go , body has a small delay i guess that is because of the drugs they gave me

these pictures are very nice
absolute cool , i could not go this year because of my illness but these pictures make it ok

Hi John

Just received an SMS from Darryl Tarr who said you had spoken to him and passed on my best wishes, many thanks for that. You are doing a fantastic job with all the great photos and details from Hungary, keep up the good work. Please try, if you can, and get some more shots of the rest of the UAE and South Africa teams, planes and pilots.

Best wishes and thanks

Roger

Thanks John:

Please if you can remember the next time you see Ian Richardson....Give him a handshake and an atta-boy for me...He is "glessening in the sun" very well After the loss of the F-86 I was worried he and Steve were not going to get the F-100 covered in time. Many thanks for the extra time it took to post the static and all around scores.

That red Hawk is an awsome piece of work as seen from this end....can imagine your jaw drops every time you get close to it. Perhaps a cockpit shot would be in order....??? Excellent coverage from a pro...

Andreas,

Never, ever, apologise for being patriotic - but you're dreaming if you think you can wrestle the Open trophy away from Ian Richardson and Jon Tappin.
