Hi All,

I would like to see some comments on the AXI motor Danny L. was using this nats. I believe he was using the 15.75 x 13 APC glow prop. The lower cost of the motor is tempting.

Thanks,

Jim W.

Jim,
Talk to Dave Snow. He had some problems and finally went with a Hacker I believe. I know he couldn't throw the big props with the AXI.

The Axi's are MUCH heavier than an equivelent Plettenberg and from posted numbers draw higher current on the same prop/rpm combo.

I have to agree with chad. The AXI 5330/18 is a very powerful motor and easily pulls my 6.8kg Composite ARF 2x2 extra vertically as far as you could want with an APC 20x11 prop. It draws around 75A. I use Flightpower 10s3p 7500mah packs which weigh 1.6 kg. A 10 min flight uses 5.6A. I like the throttle response of the AXI, half throttle for level flights and the full when into the vertical.

For F3A you need an airframe 3-400g lighter and a 10s pack capable of 20C burst to use the AXI on a 5000mah pack. I have a thunderpower 5300mah prolite pack due monday so it will be interesting to see how it performs.

The AXI5330/24 is a lower reving motor drawing less current. Now that I have some APC22x12, 22x13 APCwe props it will be interesting to see how this goes. The AXI 5330/24 with a bolly wooden 23x10 didn't have the power needed.

The AXI has large cooling vents and seems to run cooler than the plettenberg. My Plett 25-13 certainly is around 250g lighter than the AXI and will run on the Flightpower 5s2p 5000mah packs. I will be flying it today with a APC19x12APCWE at chads recommendation in my impression patternship.

I have an Extra 30-10 due next week so it will be interesting to compare the motors. However, the AXI's certainly are good value for money, and my 5330/18 has certainly had some work and performed faultessly. The factory recommends 20-30 degree timing and the power at this timing is awesome.

lukedodd, Can I ask what rpm you are turning the 20 x 11 on the AXI motor?

Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

AXI5330/18 is turning the APC20x11 at 6800 rpm. I have started an xcell sheet of motor, battey voltage, props and current draw data I can email you if you like.

It has Mainly the AXI5330xx but also the Pletten 25-13. I will add some more data soon when my 30-10 arrives. I also have some new APC 21x12,13 WE props to try.

Data was obtained from a 30 sec bench run using the packs as listed via a Hyperion E-meter.

regards luke

Luke, I would be delighted to receive your spreadsheet.

I am currently using a geared Neumotor and having issues with the gearbox and am thinking I want to go with a direct drive.

I have an AXI 4130/20 and love not having to mess with a gearbox and it's attendant unreliability.

Be sure and send the 30-10 data when you get. I am waiting to make a choice until I see some real data about the 25-13 vs. the 30-10.

Thanks.

Jeff

I'm running the 5330/18 like Dan but with a 18x12 APC e-prop and drawing 69 amps WOT and putting out 2200 watts and turning 6250 rpms on a 5kg Focus II and running the MaxAmps.com packs.. (2) 5s2p 4200mah packs in the plane.. 15c with a 20 burst.
My cruise speed is less than 60 amps.
Also using the Castle Creations HV110 amp speed controller

Hi PatternPilot,

Thanks for posting your information. Please descibe your battery packs a little more. At 4200 mah, how much are you putting back in after a flight? What class are you flying?

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

My packs are from MaxAmps.com and I'm running (2) 5s2p packs and putting in about 2000 mah after the intermediate round, I have only fun one set of sticks down to cut off doing alot of trim work.. I should be able to get thru the advanced pattern with these.. I know Dan L. goes thru 4400-5000 for the FAI pattern and he using the Tanic packs.. I'll be getting more data Temps and run time this week I'm on vacation and going to be flying with Dan at the AGS meet in Sayre PA.
The packs are new with a 15c and a 20c burst so I'm feeding info back to Austin and Clint at MaxAmps.com, I'm sure I could get a bigger (mah) pack made without a problem if needed.
I'm also going to go to the HV85 CC speed controller for plane #2 and save about 2 oz.

Winfried,

Right now I'm using the CC HV 110 amp controller and have not had any cooling issues.. Throttle responce is quick and crisp.. I do also have a curve on my setup right now, since my plane will fly the whole pattern at 48% power.. I'm on the list for the HC85 to do some work with it when ready..

Sorry to hear about the problems. In 2 weeks a much higher power 6.7 P42 gear reduction will be available as a retrofit for the smaller P32 reduction on the 15XX. This is the same gear reduction that the 2215 motor uses which runs over 4000 watts. It has a 8mm output shaft and cann handle much larger porps without problems. On the 2215 motor it has a 4 bladed 27 inch prop on it now. The P32 gear drive can handle smaller props fine but the large heavy props need the larger drive.

Contact DMA about a upgrade.
