well i took my trainer out for a flight this morning!!,weather was good sun shining no cloud no wind.she took off great i flew her round a few times then proceeded to fly some aproaches to practice my landing aproach she came in nice and level got her to within a cpl of feet then throttled up to go round again!!.big mistake as i was bringing her round for finall aproach i put in left aileron put in up elevator oops she suddenly nosed over and whent in from about 40 ft!!did i put in left aileron as i was putting in up elevator causing her to spiral im not sure?.she was bankig over just right untill i put in up elevator to bring her round then suddenly she went right over and crashed nose 1st.the wings folded the front end of fuse broke away and the prop smashed in two.after looking her over i noticed the engine has a bit of damage to the fuel line connector on the carb maybe i need a new carb!!.same on the needle valve tooboth the plastic nipples have snaped off so i probablyneed to buy a new carb and needle valve?.god knows how im gonna afford to replace everything !!.i could probably rebuild the front end but the wings are a right off ill need to rebuild them probably from scratch!!.ill try to post some pics of the wreckage later.

martno1fan,
Sorry to hear about your crash. Hang in there. All I can say is that it happens to all of us. Hope you can get it back in the air, because I know it stinks to be grounded while repairing a plane.

Ken

martno1fan,

What Ken said

Sounds like you got a little too slow and she was already stalling, power was added, then the up elevator and left aileron all at the same time which added to the stall and over she went. Sounds like she rolled left and nosed over.

So breaking this down, you have a wing close to stall, power is added, yaw and roll starts to the left do to engine/prop torque, left aileron is added, further aggravating the left roll and up elevator is also added, plane has not picked up enough speed yet, so now the plane loses more speed and is rolling to the left. Now you are in an aggravated tip stall to the left with no aileron authority to roll back to the right and over she goes with no room to recover.

It happens, been there done that, just keep at it. I use an old saying for this.

"Experience is what we get when we didn't get what we wanted". So very true

In a slow condition like that, in addition to not providing lift to the left wing when the left aileron goes down it also DOES provide drag making the plane tend to actually turn more to the left. This is why people use differential on their ailerons. Right rudder might have helped better, I say MIGHT!. This is a common technique in full scale planes too.

I hope you can get something back in the air soon and resume your flying.

Sorry to hear about the crash, martno1fan. Been there myself, did EXACTLY the same thing with the ElectroStreak early on. I'd sy what the folks up above said is dead on.

Keep up the positive ttitude about rebuilding and flying again. Good luck with her!

I thought about mentioning right rudder but I beleive it would have ended up in a cross controlled situation which can be as bad or worse as the tip stall was since airspeed was not there. My theory on this would have been now it's rolling left, losing speed and the rudder put's it into a "slip" with more of the fuselage creating drag resulting in a faster loss of airspeed.

The two questions I have and martno1fan, this is only to help others learn so please do not take it as I am picking on you.

Do you remember going to full power or partial power to climb out? Plus were you full up elevator?

No biggie if you don't remember.

I mis-read the initial post and was thinking this was a stall that occurred during a go-around. I now believe this stall occured during the turn to final and that martno1fan simply got too slow. Then when he added the aileron and the elevator it stalled and snapped into the ground.

Bubba, I don't think he was adding any power at that point. Just a low/slow approach stall from insufficient airspeed.

Bruce,

you're correct, I thought for sure I read in the initial post where he added power so I went back and looked. I guess senility is kicking in.

Nah, we both got caught by the first part of the statement. I don't have time for senility, too busy fighting alzhiemer's.

You're lucky you said that very last statement, I was already thinking of a comeback until the last three words
