Hey Guys,

I created this thread in an effort to fix a problem that I may have created. I'm almost certain that I've posted on here (or emailed people that visit here) that a good shock setup is 35-40wt oil all the way around with the stock pistons. I based this statement on my background in 1/10th offroad (nitro and electric) and simply didn't realize that the 8 shocks and their size required a shock setup much lighter. Andy Smolnick, our R&D driver informed me that he is currently running 25wt oil with the number 2 pistons. He also told me that in most instances 15-20wt oil is the ideal setup.

I apologize for any setup woes that I've caused. I'll straighten myself out here right quick.

Now this is the kind of information I need!!!

Since that's cleared up...you should also mention the springs. In another post, you CEN guys said Ofna 1/8 scale whites. Is that still correct?

jigga,

As it turns out the springs on Andy's car were actually our red springs painted white. Now I'm unsure of which springs would be necessary to alter spring rate. I'll have to investigate further. I'm pretty sure that our springs are the same size as 1/8th scale buggy rears but now that needs to be measured. I apologize for the confusion.

thats great info cenracing!

could you post a list of your findings on the 1/8 springs, heavy to light weight by colour etc?

i have searched all over for info like this and its just not around.

if you could do similar for other vehicles in your range that would be great too, this is just what we need, keep it up!

Hey Guys,

This is Jeremy from CEN. I usually log on as CEN Racing, but I'll be using my personal handle after work hours.

I'll be looking into aftermarket springs and trying to get the info back to you as soon as possible. I'll also let you know about any option springs offered through us (if there are any) and I'll need to take some time to compare the 1/8th scale springs to our springs so that I can really give you a comprehensive list of what's out there and how it compares to stock.

By the way for those of you running the Genesis it is absolutely crucial that you remove the two horizontal shocks on top of the shock towers. I had yet to run a Genesis with those removed and I can't begin to tell you how much that frees up the truck. Its also a major plus if you run an FM digital radio system because of the improved response and it also gives you the ability to set endpoints more precisely.

I realize that I'm getting into aftermarket parts some of which are expensive but in my free time I'd really like to come on here and try to hook you guys up with the equipment that will bring our vehicles to life.

Many of you also have much more experience than I do so please jump in and let me know if you have any cool info to share.

To a new beginning,
Jeremy

Jeremy,

First of all, your time and help is greatly appreciated! Don't worry about the price, we really want the knowledge your going to give us. Besides, all the competition uses aftermarket parts, so personally speaking, I won't be upset if all the parts aren't CEN. I just want my Genesis to kick butt!!!

Ok, this spring info is tough to come by, but I'm making progress. I've now confirmed through Andy that We have tried Mugen Seiki Rear 1/8th scale buggy springs on the Genesis. I'm not sure exactly how they compare to our springs but I do know that they look awesome and that they have at least three different spring rates. I'm also going to go out on a limb and say that 1/8th scale rears by Kyosho and Ofna should work without a problem as well. Worst comes to worst you may need to add more shock clips in order to compress the springs to correct a change in ride height. To view the mugen springs go to http://www.mugenseiki.com/menueefi.htm and click on the "hop up parts" link on the left side. Then on the new main screen click on the top link for the "MBX-5." The springs will be in the new window on the top right hand side...they look pretty sweet.

I'm also going to attempt to get some information to you guys on how to put swaybars on your cars (if you haven't already).
Stay tuned for more exciting news.

Ok, more news on the suspension front. Some of you may have tried this but I was extremely excited when I was able to get a prototype front swaybar onto my genesis. I'll have info on the parts needed to make one on Monday or Tuesday when I get back to work. It definitely keeps the front end flatter and allows it to accelerate in a straighter line. I also now believe that a spring setup that slightly overpowers the pack of the shock oil will improve the trucks ability to change direction. In stock form the truck squats so severly that the inside front wheel will generally lift off the ground and it is difficult to get that baby to drive out of the turn. (ie, the truck remains turning while on power until you turn the other way, and sometimes until you let off a little) If you put a setup on in which the springs are pushing back against the "pack" enough to overcome the "squat" of acceleration the truck should square up sooner and become more nimble.

I'll try to find "the setup" for this ASAP. If anyone has tried something similar and has feedback (positive or negative) please let us know.

Ok guys,

After testing with the front swaybar on a tight track I've decided that its not a positive change. It just takes away too much steering to be productive. I do; however, believe that the spring/oil setup will be dialed (especially if I through in a mean servo) I'll keep you posted on my findings.

Not trying to step on your toes here Jeremy but I am running swaybars on the front and rear. Yes just on the front it takes away too much steering but that can be gained back with diff oils.

William,

You can step on them all you'd like. I know that you are the man to go to for this stuff and your input is much appreciated.

For those of you that don't know William, you can find a picture of him on our website under the R/C racing link followed by the Team Cen link. He has extensive experience with the Genesis (and other vehicles I'm sure) and he has done very well with our equipment.
