I have one of these and I plan to put an OS 61SF in it. I'm a little worried about the weight though... But anyway, I have a question regarding the cockpit floor. Mine does not fit the fuselage well at all and I'll probably ditch it. I was wondering if there is an easier way to secure the canopy to the fuse yet still be easy to remove so I can take the wing off... I've thought about using 3 screws on each side of the canopy to secure it although I think that it may be a hassle every time to take the wing off. What is everyone else doing?

Like you I did not wont the hassle of screwing the canopy on and off so I have cut the floor to fit and put hardwood blocks inside the floor unit to take a carbon rod at the front and a canopy latch at the rear, just have to slide the canopy latch to lift the canopy. See Pics.

Hey guys.......i have not seen this "ultra" Yak 54 before , until tonight. I have had my eyes on another brand name yak over at Notro models >>....... http://www.nitroplanes.com/ya50nimorare.html , and it seems to look like the exact same plane. The finish on it looks pretty impressive and from the sounds (of most of you in this thread) , it could be a fun little plane. Since this thread started.......have you had any bad experiences with the plane at all besides being to light in the front?

Here is a quick pic of the plane over at nitro models..............

Looks like the same aircraft with some trim differences, the main attribute of this craft is its a fully aerobatic airoplane therefore its unstable in pitch and will snap roll if too much elevator is applied, other than that its a peach.

I will vidio as soon as the weather improves and the sheep are off the field.

Flew my Yak this week end and glitched every where it was very interesting on the approuch when she turned inverted all by herself, got it back and landed very quickly, PPM does not seem to be able to cope with all the wires inside even though they are continuity earther to each other, will have to try harder to find a solution other than disguising the problem with PCM.

I have a standard FM Futaba R148DF receiver in mine and have not had any glitches. My antenna runs along the bottom (inside) of the fuselage. I have wire pull/pull cables only on the rudder. I did come close to losing it this weekend on a landing approach. All of the warnings about maintaining airspeed are absolutely true. Gliding in is not an option. I had cut the throttle substantially, made a turn onto final with a moderate crosswind and it began to stop responding and begin a snap almost immediately. Having been forewarned of the snapping tendency on this forum, I applied power and was able to recover. I mention this near disaster, because it somewhat mimicked radio glitching. It was cleary my mistake in letting the airspeed get too low.
Mine is balanced slightly forward of the recommended CG (It took 10 oz of lead) and has an OS .46FX for power (NOT NEARLY ENOUGH). I intend to put in a Saito 70 to get more power, but I expect the snapping tendency to still be there. Also, be sure that you reinforce the landing gear mounting with extra glass cloth and wood to stabilize flexing --- hard landings will fracture the fiberglass. I think the firewall needs extra support as well. As others have stated, it flys ok if you maintain speed. Good luck. Terry M

This is my second one as the last one was lost to the snap and I have been warning everone who will listen that this aircraft has that tendancy, its not a fault its a carateristic of the sharply tapered wing. What I was experiencing was definatly glitching it did all sorts of silly things whilst flying straight and level at speed so it was not the snap that I experienced. My arial is in a plastic tube down the wing so well away from the pull pull cables, I am going to fit a ferite ring on the aileron servo's just in case, will report what I find.

Wish I had found this thread before I flew.. I'm in the process of ordering new landing gear and Cowl.

I put a Saito 82, 13X8 or 13X7, with a Hitec 645 on a Carbon tube push rod. For ballast in the nose I layed Epoxy for strength in the cowl instead of lead. Though I have it at the recommended CG it tends to drag its tail some what.

It flies as beautifully in the air (Sport or Pattern) as it looks does on the ground.

If you plan to fly off grass, put bigger wheels on it. I've had it nose over a few times on takeoff and landing. In fact due to changing winds I had to bring it in fairly hot which broke the landing gears at the ankles. No other damage other than the landing gear.

I've also had the tip stalls one just as I made the landing zone 3 feet off the ground. It did a roll where a gust of wind saved me and it landed on its feet. Everyone though it one of the wildest landings though I knew I was out of control. No need to share that with everyone at the time.

Love the plane and the challenge. Looking for another one though it seems that everyone is out of stock of them.

Hi Guys, Great info and I'm also in the middle of building mine.
I have a few question regarding the Pull-pull on the rudder. When I ran the cable I found that no matter how I ran it, it always rub on a frame! I try to cut (through one of the lightening holes) a straight path but cannot reach the frame because it tapers down. The servors seems to move fine but I'm worry that eventually it will bind when the wire eat in the wood. Do you have the same problems?
Also one more for BaldEagle,
You changed to elevator pull-pull as well and showed a pic of the servo. Can you post a pic of the elevator on how it all hook up?
Thanks in advance,

Harry.
