Actually now the worst (and dumbest) things I've seen done with cars now are those "Donk" cars. They take the "old folks cars", big boring sedans and put on thes 26" wheels and raise them up like monster trucks. Then they paint graphics on them that look like they belong on the walls of the bedroom of a 5 yr. old.

As far as that "Fast and Furious" crap. Well I do drive a '95 Mitsubish Eclipse GST" but it is all original as I am the original owner. But I though the movies sucked, the sound track sucked too. Only one good car and one good song. The car, The Dodge Charger, the song was by Santana. The 2nd "Fast and Furious" had some muscle cars at least. Now they are coming out with a third movie about Drifting in Japan. Anyway movies (in general) do not portray the reality but they do help to make stuff more popular. What got me about the first movie is they way they were hijacking the big rigs, while they were driving at 60+ mph. Extremely dangerous. Trucks are stolen when they aren't moving. And that character with the tatoos, what a bully. His behaviour reminded me of a big mean fish I kept in my aquarium. AND now I should add, my other car (newly purchased) is a 2006 Dodge Magnum R/T with the 340 hp Hemi. Good old (more like new now) American muscle! See the attachments of my cars.

your comment on the fast and the furious is sooooo true..that Dodge charger was IT.. well I am biased..I 'm a big mopar fan, with that being said , although american muscle is plentiful here in Aus..it's still sort of rare... in 20 odd years I've only seen maybe 3 or 4 Dodge chargers..the thing is I actually got to own a '69 for a few years...

as for modern muscle, chrysler has only popped back into the picture here say the last 5 years before that it was strictly chrysler jeep..no cars..then the first new car we got was the neon?, then came the PT crusier, now we have the crossfire and recently the 300c...

we actually are getting some performance models, dont know about the states but here they are badged as SRT(street race technology) and with a 5.7 litre( roughly around 350 cid) hemi.. tell me, as I havent had a chance to check them out ..is this engine a true hemi? as in spark plugs in the middle of the rockers?

I ask because we had our own locally built cars back in the 60's 70's and 80's mostly225 slant 6and 245cid, 265 cid hemi 6 cylinders but they were only hemi's due to the combustion chamber shape..spark plug screwed into the side not the top of the head
we did have V8's but only 273, 318, 340 and 360..

Australia never had big block equipped cars from any manufacture ..our chev's are called Holdens the pontiac gto is our exported monaro, and ford offered 289, 302 and 351..if you wanted a big block you had to put it in yourself ..if you could register the car.. my local chrysler modelled as a Valiant had a 440 which is a big deal over here..but not for you guys

The best laughs I get is when I take my car to the drag strip, and the import class with its riced out lemons... Big spoilers, big wheels, lots of stickers aparently make you go faster... THey are happen when they get into the 14's or 13's... any off the shelf performance car today will do that stock, for the same amount of money they have wasted..

Fast and Furious, I loved the movie, any racing is good for me, although, if I held my car to the floor that long Id be doing 300mph... how many gears do those cars have anyway? HAHAHA Good stuff...

HaveBlue: My car is the Dodge Magnum R/T, they also have the SRT8. The R/T has the 5.7 L (348 ci) 340 hp Hemi. The SRT8 has the 6.1 L (372 ci) 425 hp. They are not true Hemis. They do have those 2 big valves per cylinder. They also have 2 spark plugs per cylinder, so they are both over the top but neither is directly in the middle. And the Comustion chamber is a little sqished looking distorting the true Hemi shape. The reason for this was to get cleaner combustion. Here is what the Dodge Magnum lools like (it's my car). Anyway the Magnum, Charger and 300 all sit on the same planform. Mecedes E class suspension and the 5 speed automatic tranny is Mercedes too. Just go to www.hemi.com and you can learn all about Hemis (old and new) there.

By the way, that drag race scene if the Fast and the Furious, that was longest 1/4 mile I ever saw. Especially the race at the beginning of the movie. Must have been 5 miles long for the amount of time they were racing. And the other scene where Vin Deisel destroys the Charger, that too was way too long.

The 5.7 engine is 345 Cu in and the 6.1 is shown on the Chrysler web site as 370 cu in. Calculate it yourself: bore X bore X stroke X .7854 X number of cylinders = engine displacement. As far as not being true Hemis? The combustion chamber is hemispherical with the same valve layout at the original Hemi, what's not true Hemi about that?

Here is a 300 that was at the track, nice family car, not a performance machine.. I think the chargers are kinda cool, but wish they were more retro. The big 'hemi' ones sound like they make decent power, but how heavy is the car?

Now, this is what Im talking about, its not my favorite year, but a nice car.

It's the shape, not the valve layout that makes it a true Hemi or not. I didn't calculate from the bore x stroke x 8. I just did a conversion from 5.7 L. Did you check out the link I provided? It may tell you more too. I attached information from the Magnum brochure about the Hemi for you. Notice the way the combustion chamber looks by the spark plug holes.

a true hemi??? you ask the 426 is a true hemi spark plug in the top of the hemispherical cumbustion chamber...stick the plug in the side ..and thats no longer what I call a true hemi engine..like I said our six cylinders were badged as hemi's while I concede that hemi refers to the shape of the combustion chamber the concept of an even burn from the top instead of igniting from the side completes the "concept" of what the hemi is all about.. so technical I am wrong. and totally agree about the shape..thats what HEMI means..I know.

thanks for the link..If I used my brains I could have probably done a search and found it..thanks for pointing out that link ..two spark plugs ..thats interesting.... though not new

I MUST APPOLOGISE FOR MY REFERENCE TO TRUE HEMI

the thing that I loved was our chrysler six clyinder R/T hemi chargers which were equipped with tripple side draught 45 dohc Webers, blew the doors off fords 351 phase 3 GTHO...ford people have a hard time admitting to this ..actually they wont... chryslers had poor sales here and not many people liked them... they were often reffered to as "wog chariots".. wog was a derrogitive term for people who didnt speak english very well ,eg foreigners

and yeah in the fast and the furious ..that would have to be the logest 9.2 seconds 1/4 mile race, not to mention the gear changes!!!!!

i don't really agree with the tuner fans too and im a teen. everyone at school seems to buy the expensive import cars that barely run when you can buy a nice muscle car for $1000 and up. i dont own a car right now but im in the market and i am either going to buy a truck and run the tuners over or buy a muscle car and blow by them.

[font=!QUOT!Times New Roman!QUOT!] the whole idea of the tuner area of cars is to take inexpensive cars and make them something nice that looks good and can move. i am also a teen and the only truck i like is the Toyota land cruiser and i don't have 34 grand to spend on a truck so an inexpensive golf gt or civic is good for me. and ya muscle cars are nice but GAS MILEAGE they are gas eaters and to find a nice one thats still in-tacked and not rusted out is hard. now when money no object i could make a list my #1 pic would be the BMW M3 GTR
