I know this probably doesn't apply directly to RC fuels but I just thought I'd share a little secret I've been using for several years....

I have many yard tools that have 2 stroke engines so I always have to have a 2 stroke mix around... Well some years back (prolly bout 8 or so ago) I decided instead of having to keep 2 fuel jugs around all the time and possibly risking putting just straight fuel into one of my weedies or my chainsaws I'd just keep one jug of mixed fuel and use it for everything, 4 stroke mowers included.... Well in the process of doing this I found that my 4 strokes running on fuel/oil mix were running exactly the same as they did before, no smoking or anything...

I have been running 2 mowers like this (1 rider, and 1 push mower, both have Briggs and Straton) for at least 7+ years... and they still run like the day I bought them.. No smoke, same power as when new... same with all my 2 stroke equipment...

If you would like to do the same and make your 4 strokes last longer than they were intended to then I'll share my long kept secret...

I use regular 87 octane pump gasonline and mix it with Opti-2 smokeless E-GD+ (pic attached) I swear by this stuff! one bottle mixes 10 gallons and can be used for ALL 2 strokes regardless of mixture recomendations....

Hi,
I have been using my lawn mower to useup stale oil/gas mix for some time now and the mower runns great. The mower is about ten years old now. It doesn't seem to matter what two stroke oil I use. I was to cheap to throw it away and who picks up old gas anyway.

Dave

Ah... you are right... it prolly doesn't matter which 2 stroke oil I burn in my 4 strokes.... But... I primarily chose this oil for my 2 strokes, It was recomended to me by my uncle who owns a landscaping buisiness and has all kinds of power equipment.... about a year ago I had to replace the reed valve in one of my trimmers and had the engine apart... the internals were in pristine condition... not one scar on the piston or the cylinder and there was not a stitch of carbon build-up on either... the only thing that made this engine look other than new was the discoloration from heat... that is why I swear by this oil.... That and the fact that my mowers still run as strong as the day I bought them...

Heres a question: Is it possible to use 2 stroke oil where 4 stroke oil goes in a 4 stroke push lawnmower, as in not mixed?

I don't think it'd be a good idea to use 2 stroke oil in the sump of a 4 stroke mower. In a 2 stroke the oil only has to do it's job for a tiny fraction of a second as it goes through the engine. OK, that's maybe an exageration because some of it might hang around for a second or so in some parts like the gudgeon pin. But the 4 stroke oil gets used over and over again and has to be able to hold its viscosity, put up with acids from blowby and keep any particles dispersed so things don't get blocked up. So 4 stroke oil is full of additives which would be a waste in 2 stroke oil.

I did a search and came up with like 5 auctions for this stuff (by the case).. But, they all said that they ship to the US only.... Tell Ya what... I'd be willing to pick up a couple of the small "tubes" of this stuff and mail it to you to try... each "tube" mixes one gallon... If you like it I can see about shipping a case of this stuff to you, just need you to cover the cost of the oil and shipping... Liquid isn't light...

Works great! Worked in a lawn mower/small engine shop back in the '70's.....all our "on-site" gas was mixed.....that way no-one...even the owner, could make the fatal mistake of putting straight gas in a chain saw, string trimmer, etc....

Worked so good, I've been doing it ever since at home....

Yes this oil is available in Australia, cause I use the exact oil in my 2-stroke fuel mixes. They sell this stuff at my local Lawnmowing shop.

One thing that I did (I was just being silly), was adding extra oil to my 2-stroke oil fuel mix. I added Briggs and Stratton 4-stroke oil to my can of fuel (thinking it would give extra protecting), engine ran fine, but I tell ya...there was alot of smoke!!!

Anyone else tried using 4-stroke oil in their 2 stroke engines?
