The Hobbico Twinstar is just the second ARF that I have put together, as quite frankly I am a builder but after this ARF my thoughts about these ready-made planes just might change. I was very impressed with the construction as all the parts were laser cut, nice! The covering is actually something more then shelf paper and looks an awful like Monokote and yes there were a few wrinkles but they came right out and stayed out once I ran a hot iron over them.
The main complaint that I have heard about the Twinstar is the engine nacelles being to cramped for using a bigger tank and I agree but since I am using OS .25FP’s on mine it really wasn’t a concern. I did have some problems with the screws supplied with the spinners, soft Phillip heads that stripped out right away so I changed them over to DuBro’s and problem solved.
They got rid of the plastic wing tips, plastic tips for the rudder and stabilizer and I applaud them for that, way to go guys, heck even the hardware supplied was of good quality and used most of that.
Ok my main big gripe! The tube for the rudder control rod seems to have a kink in it as the rod is binding really bad and that’s without it hooked up to the servo or the rudder, bummer sure hope I don’t have to dig into the fuselage to fix it. Now all in all I really do like the plane and it has changed the way I look at ARF’s but I will always be a builder.

I bought a older style Twinstar at a swap meet a while back and started flying it about a month ago. It is a basic setup with 2 OS 25 FP's. It is a great flying plane with plenty of power - really a lot of fun and sounds great. It looks like they have corrected a few problems with the new version - covering, wingtips, ect

Maybe JIS head screws and you need a JIS screwdriver. That's what was suggested to me when I complained of other stripped phillips heads
