Considering the large size of this plane's ail/elev surfaces I went with Hitch HS-5645MG's there, and for that barn door rudder it got a HS-5955TG (current #HS-7955TG). The manual has settings for Low & high rates for control throws, but for myself I set it up to have a low/mid/high(3D).
On 'mid' level flying at 1/3 throttle, barrel rolls look like a Waring blender on 'puree' setting......flat out awesome!.....and a bit scary, I love it!

As for the muffler; a couple years back my flying buddy & I went to the Toledo RC Show and he talked with the folks from DA at their booth, regarding getting more ooompf out of his DA-50 (his Yak weighs almost 19#! - my Ultimate w/smoke is about 16.5#). They told him their stock single pipe muffler netted almost 200 more rpm on that -vs- a pitts style wrap around. In actual real world you can't notice the difference, but it IS louder! Now you're using a DLE55, but the results might be similar I'd guess. However this bird looks best with a pitts. Food for thought.

When I put this Ultimate together TBM was carrying a pitts wrap around they called a "Silent Beauty" which was baffled (sort of). It's ever so slightly quieter than the std pitts on my DL50 in my SD/TOC-260 Extra. Not sure if anybody carries those now days. Stock pitts have the 2 stingers welded onto the expansion chamber. On that 'Silent Beauty' they go all the way inside that expansion chamber but have side holes drilled into each stinger.....hence my 'sort of baffled' statement.

What you using for throttle servo?  I, in the past have used just some cheapy  plastic analog that was laying around, but I can see where I might want to use metal gear and speedy for 3Ding.

HS-65MG, touted as being somewhat shockproof.
Used by many 3D/profile fliers.

Cheaper, lesser servos can be used, but consider that after all is said & done
it IS controlling a rather important feature of your model....the throttle!

Thank's for the support guy's. But taking into consideration the mfg only call's for 50oz I'm going with Futaba 3010's. I have those on a 20cc profile and do very well with the size of control surface on it. If it don't go well with this ultimate I will let you all know and you all can say you told me so. I have a number of gas powered and never had a servo fail because of nylon gear's. We'll see with this one.
Again Thank's, Robert

Take into consideration that for me the manual's low rate willl probably be my high.
Jim, I will be using the pitt's mostly for fit. Thank's!
PnW, 3010's on throttle as well.

Since I had a few JR8611's laying around that I had just rebuilt, that is what I used all around on my current one (yea I know, way overkill but I like overkill), but without looking at my posts way earlier in this thread, like 5 or so years ago, I seem to think I used 5645's everywhere and the servo that was the precursor to the 7955, I want to say it was a 5945 but that just does not sound correct.

As far as throttle is concerned, I would never ever use a used servo. I like fast servos for the throttle, especially for 3D. I have been using the HS-7775MG recently for all my throttle setups.

With a 50cc in the plane, I think I would go with the pitts muffler. I think it looks better, you do not have to chop a big hunk out of the cowl and the extra 200rpm you'll gain on the straight stack muffler will make really no difference in the end since this plane tends to come in around 16+/- lbs and that is just about perfect for a 50cc.

Dont forget though, you are putting a 55cc on it, gonna have a bit more authority than what the manufacturer called for on engine size.

I use the 3010's on a 40cc and they are a great servo though.   Just all depends on flying style.

Where did you see that?  Just curious as this is the specs I have :
Ailerons: 4 servos at 98 oz-in torque Elevator: 2 servos at 98 oz-in torque Rudder: 1 servo at 100 oz-in torque or 2 @ 50 oz-in torque Throttle: 1 servo at 30 oz-in torque

Just thought I'd share ...

Hmm, now I feel I went a bit overboard with my HD9150's on all but rudder and its a HD1218

Whats others thoughts?  Could I get by with lesser?   or should I just stick with my plan?

You haven't stated their spec so I can't say.
But look at it this way, overkill & your fine......too little and, well....carry a trash bag.

HD9150
180 in oz @ 4.8
222 in oz @ 6.0

HD1214th
230in oz @ 7.4
200in oz @ 6.0

Both are metal geared, and the 1214 is double BB (rudder application)

I was kinda thinking this was a general range for a 50cc size plane?  I mostly have had 30cc and smaller planes.

Awesome plane! I love mine it has a DLE 55 in it and will 3D all day long has all the power you are looking for. Brought up the wing load a little but nothing bad. Plane will land very nice do not have to keep to much throttle! I love the plane one thing that I would suggest is up grade the hardware on the ailerons! The stock gear will wear out and not hold as well hanger 9 pro links are the way to go.

Seeing as how you won't be running 5 servos @ 4.8v., and 1 @ 7.4v., but rather all @ 6.0v., I'd say you got 'em backwards so to speak.
You'd be better off with 4 ail servos of a bit less torque, but overall you'll do just fine. Nothing to fret about.

I goofed..... I shouldnt type when its that late lol

try this again

1214th (rudder) is 292in oz at 6v
9150's (ail,elev) is 200in oz at 6v

My thinking was the rudder needed a buit more push

Used to be I'd go downstairs and work on a model for hours and hours. Now days,
I'll work on something for far shorty periods before getting to that point of 'I've had
enough' hits me. Besides, there's always tomorrow.

Performance Series Ultimate Biplane 3D 1.60 ARF (GPMA1307)
Tech Note
June 18, 2008
Servos with a minimum torque rating of 98 oz-in must be used for all of the control surfaces of this plane (ailerons, elevators, rudder). However, there is an additional recommendation for the servos which is that they should have metal gears.
