Got the DL running tonight. Pretty easy to start for the first time. Using a 22-8 prop.
I am wondering if I need to increase the gap between my carb and firewall? The manual says 1". I think I have like 5\8".

Use a hole saw and cut a 1" dia hole in firewall that'll match up with carb opening. That'll allow for pressure eqalization, which the manual
was wanting us to have.

That is exactly what I was thinking of doing. I already have the cowl mounted so moving the engine out is not really an option.

That's exactly what I did.

I purchased a sulivan tail bracket but opted to use the stock one. I found that the stock one binds a bit. I hate it but I didn't want to pull the covering off of the tail in order to install the blind nuts that the sulivan uses.

How did you all install it?

Just with wood screws with a bit of thin ca to harden the wood or did you all pull the covering and use the blind nuts/machine screws?

Alright Guys, I'm now in the process of building the Ultimate. I have read all of the threads here and am still scratching my head as to what hinges to use. I just recieved my plane from tower last week, the CA hinges and slots are almost 1 1/2" wide, They are huge. Is this the standard size that some of you others had or is this an upgrade to the hinges that great planes is now using. Should I scratch all the CA hinges as a whole and if so what pinned hinges should I use? Thanks for your help...

I used the heavy duty Dubro hinges, the ones with the brass cotter pins. With a bit of work, these work great. I'm not sure that the LE/TE of the surfaces lend themselves to using the Robarts hinge points, although some have used them and have had no problems that i'm aware of.

I went with the dubro 1/4 scale cotter pinned hinges. I used my slotting machine to widen the slots and some magivered pieces of double & single sided sand paper to make perfectly centered slots. I then used vasiline on the center of each hinge and used 30 min epoxy to glue them in. I doubled up the hinges on the tail feathers. I lightly scuffed up each hinge with 80 grit paper so the epoxy grabs best and tooth picked each hinge from the bottom.

Oh and I cut and inset each hinge to allow for no gap.

This was time consuming...

I would have gone with radio south hinges but don't know where to get them up here...
