Bob Brassell: What Jett for the Thunder Tiger Rare Bear? I prefer two-cycle; the one I'd seen had an OS 4-cycle in it. What do you think? thx. Jim

Hi,

Thanks for writing.....

There are two that I am aware of flying with Jett power.

One has a SJ-90L engine and turbo-jett muffler installed - 14x6 prop - around 12K rpm ground peak.

The other is running a Jett BSE-120L engine with a turbo-jett muffler turning a 15x8 prop. Runs about 10.7K rpm ground peak.
(I also suggested to him trying the Midwest AT-6 1.20 size racing prop available from Supercool in Australia. Cowls are similar in size, might be a good match - see this for reference http://www.jettengineering.com/hall/at6com.html )

Both installations with the Turbo-Jett fit perfectly in the cowl, and from reports (no pictures unfortunately) the aircraft fly great.

The only thing to watch out for is the fuel tank - the stock location is too low. Move the tank upward to get it more on the center line of the engine/firewall (there is room there).

The 90L, 100L and 120L are all the same size and mounting dimensions as an OS91FX and the ThunderTiger 91 that the plane was basically designed for. So fit up is not a problem.

You will see from the RCU threads here that some folks used an OS160 and larger 4-C engines in the plane because it tended to come out tail heavy. The word I got from the SJ-90L powered Bear was that the plane only needed a few ounces of lead up front - otherwise was perfect.

Either the SJ-90L, BSE-90L or the BSE-120L - combined with a Turbo-Jett muffler - would be my suggestions. Your choice

I trust this is helpful

Bob Brassell
