JCOKEEFE.... I never even flew mine with the stock wire landing gear. This plane is to heavy for the supplied wire gear. I used a Great Planes brand 90 size aluminum gear and trimmed off about 1/3. I was going to use the 60 size but the 90 size is a thicker material and this plane comes in at around 14lbs. I then painted the gear black, put on the checkered flag decals and clear coated them. I have been flying it this way for 1 1/2 years with absolutely no gear trouble whatsoever. That is one of the knocks on this kit is that the gear is to flimsy. Good way to screw up a beautiful looking and flying plane is to have the gear collapse on landing and go through the bottom wing. In the above pictures I have the wire gear installed with my homemade leggings but the wieght of this plane would make them bow even on the work bench so I changed them over before the maiden. I will try to get you some pics of my current gear this weekend.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Curt

Thanks a lot. That's exactly the info that I need. I will get the GP 90 size aluminum gear.

Well, I finally did the maiden on my CG Ultimate from a kit (post 281). It was a complete rebuild. It has a TT 120pro two stroke in it and it is really fast. I was thinking that it would fly alot slower because of all of the drag but no, way. Needless to say it flys awesome but different than any plane I've flown. There is a video of it on youtube under my call name of PC9JEFF if you want to see it. I will take more video of it in the future. Making movies is time consuming but rather fun.

Just found this. What a neat thread. Here are a couple of pics of the Aeromaster II I built back in the 70s. Supertigre 71, Wing Mfg Co foam wings, and turned the gear back to front. A great flyer. Lost it back in the mid 80s when the top wing came partially off. Have the Cox 1/5 WACO now...

Nice Staggerwing. I have its twin. Mine's got a Saito 2.70 and flies great. I have the Topflite Staggerwing too and it doesn't fly anywhere near as well.

As for clutter...

Thanks. Believe it or not, it hasn't flown yet, four years later. I've fiddled and fiddled, but I can't seem to get the engine (an old Q-35) to run, and I never seem to get around to replacing it. All this after replacing the servos and linkages, the air system, the tank and lines, and rebuilding and reinstalling the landing gear. Sigh...

That's not clutter, that's just a full hangar!

I see we have similar taste in aircraft. In addition to the Staggerwings, I believe I see a Cub, a smaller Cub, a Gee Bee Y, a Spacewalker, a Tiger Moth, and a Taylorcraft I think, all planes in my hangar, too.

What the heck is with the quotes? I keep removing the double-, triple- and quadruple-single-quotes and they keep coming back every time I repost...

Know what you mean about all the Staggerwing work. Mine had Kraft servos in it when I got it and needed a full update. It was definitely worth it. The plane is excellent.

Oh, and I think the quotes problem might be related to a virus attack on the site. There were photos replaced by the malicious little electronic critters scattered around the forum.
