You guys are making me suffer! I'm sitting here, drooling over a biplane anyway. Now I'm getting on here almost every day to drool at all of those 2-winged beauties (and the Caproni). It's just a matter of time before I get mine. Hopefully it'll be my next plane!!

I don't know about everyone else but I run oversize wheels on ALL my planes for just that reason - grass that grows faster than a take-off run.

Yeah, I have the occasional flip on landing but it's not all that common. You just have to remember to give full up elevator when she settles into the green stuff and you're usually OK.

How about these?!!!

The blue one is a Sig 10-300 profile that my dad put together for me. We widened the wing one bay on each side (note the decal on top of the wing doesn't fit anymore. It has a Saito 72 on it and flies great.

the small pitts is a scratch built from plans that my dad made. It's got a SuperTigre 2300 with a Bisson pitts muffler. Also flies great. It's modeled after the first pitts built by Curtiss Pitts. Pitts Number One never did have wheel pants and the cowl came from a T-craft.

the big one.. well. I bought that at a fun fly for 30 bucks. What you see is what you get for your 30 bucks, minus the cowl. That cost as much as the plane! I've got a G62 to put in it. We'll start working on that one soon. It's originally a Bob Dively Pitts from a kit with an 80-inch upper wingspan. We're not going to be putting the aluminum sheeting on the outside and we're going to try and keep the wieght down as low as possible. We'll see how it goes. I'm debating what scheme to put on the big Pitts.

Well, here is one I need help identifying. These are scans of portions of slides taken in '65 of one of my dad's first rc planes. He bought it built and was told by the guy he bought it from that it was an Astro Bipe (not to be confused with a Hog Bipe....I just learned that! lol). We know that whatever it was, the cowl was custom made and not part of the plans, so at least that part it modified. I started another thread on this over here: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7767196/anchors_7770509/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#7770509 and they suggested I ask you guys, too. The suggestions have been heavily modified Astro Bipe or perhaps a modified Boomerang. Any other ideas? I'd love to build another one to add to the collection.

Thanks!

Kind of looks like one that RCKen has in his avitar. Do a search for him and check it out. Then you could PM him about it. I'm not certain but it does have those tendancies. I hope this helps.

Thanks! Looking at his gallery, he has a Hog Bipe, which is close, but not quite. That is the plane I once thought it was, but the Hog Bipe is a larger plane and has a different tail and wings. Of course, seems my problem is that whatever it was, it was modified quite a bit. So, building another one will be quite a bit of guess work...even if I can figure out the platform the builder started with.

What size is that Ultimate Red? Looks larger than a Goldberg kit. Very cool though.

I've been meaning to ask, where's Newberry, FL. ?

Hate to admit it, but it is an ARF. 37 inch span, by Aero Technolgies distributed by ATEC Models LLC www.atecmodels.com
(I'm not sure if they are still in business, the web site does not come up.)
The original instructions had the CG of by 2 1/4 inches making it somewhat tail heavy and "spirited" which probably accounts for the problem the original owner had with it. It had a few "stress" fractures when I got it that were easily repaired. It still, with the CG in the proper place, is a handful for an old man.

Newberry FL. is about 16 miles east of our Flying Gators flying field in Archer FL. Or if you want to get more precise it is 3.2 miles west of I-75 on CR 26 out of Gainesville FL which is presently in hibernation until the students come back to the U of F for football season.
