LOL,,,, No matter how you slice it, seems like the pilot always gets the blame Thats one hell of way to fly with nothing holding the main moving surfaces on, I can't say I have ever had that one happen to me,,,,, Thank God,, and I think leaving them for the buzzards was too good for them, you should have made them ride on the plane. Fortuneately for me in some small degree, I have trained most of the guys I fly with so I seem to be the preflight guy right now, so anything like that missed would be my fault too, I can't say I've even heard of anyone not pinning or gluing in the hinges, Thats another thing I will add to my checklist from now on.. I don't think I have ever checked that out on anyones plane, I just assume they know that much at least. I did have a guy not mount his battery before On a Sig Kadet and that thing flew for over 45 minutes, its last command was a right turn and thats where everything froze, so it did circles climbing until it ran out of fuel, That plane is a big Plane and it looked like a pinhead in the sky before we lost site of it, then we heard the engine quit and 10 minutes later we saw the reflection of the monocote off the sun every time it made the the full turn on its way back down, so 6 or 7 of us chased it for 2 to 5 miles or so and we never did get it back, it just flew away, with no engine running, it was very graceful though, nice big climbing circles and then big decending circles, thats one hell of a trainer, I built one for my pop after that about 12 years ago, and am still flying that plane today. **knock on wood** it still has the original motor I put in it, and it has never ever even had any mishaps to it. I've even added a parachute / bomb dropping hatch to it last summer. I've gotten my money out of that plane for sure. But right now I'm mostly flying my bipe and my twist, I have a few other toys in the hanger that I bring out once in while as well.
