Status: offline 		Standard settings when you don't have a manual: Open the main needle 3 turns, plan to need to close it some. If air bleed carb, close the air bleed and then open it 1 turn, plan to need to open it more later. If dual needle carb, open the idle needle several turns, close the main barrel, and then close the idle needle to where light resistance is felt OR you can see the barrel move from the needle pressing against the seat. (whichever is first) Open the needle 1 1/2 turns. Any .40 will start with those settings. It will be rich in practically every case. If that engine is old enough that it doesn't use muffler pressure, the high end might be 1/2 turn lean. (you can update and put a pressure tap in the muffler and not cause any problems. ) Start the engine at appx 1/3 throttle, slowly open the throttle and adjust the top end. Find max rpm and open the needle at least 1/8 turn from there. Slowly reduce throttle and seek the lowest rpm that you can keep it running. Every time it starts to sputter, gently tweak the idle adjustment to stabilize the engine. When the idle is right, you will be able to have the carb just barely cracked open for appx 1 to 3 min, and slap the throttle to full with the engine showing little to no hesitation in responding.
