FOX 50 runs HOT is this normal ???
older engine: 7-10 years old sitting long time on Pheaton biplane

mixture setting has no effect on how hot it runs
fuel 10% or 15% omega (koolpower) no difference.

Crazy, this engine runs best on low to no nitro because of its head button design and high compression. I experienced something like you did with the high-speed adjustment. My needle valve had become very loose in the nozzle it screws into, allowing a lot of air to enter and creating a lean mixture no matter how much I turned the needle. I solved the problem with a little teflon tape on the needle.

Good luck with it,

==Mike==

green cool power has no castor, castor good for Foxs. Castor carries heat out the tail pipe. Need castor in your mix.

Whoooohooohoooo man.

Please - not so much nitro in this engine. They are designed well to run on 0 nitro quite well. The most I would run is 5% in a cool climate. I've had two and they did run warm compared to my other engines. I had them in Sig Kougars with tuned pipes back when they were still making these bad boys.

I'd love to have another but I would have to carry a whole other can of fuel with me. I like having engines that all run on the same %.

Yup,
Duke designed all his engines to love castor.
Put some castor in that puppy.
At least 20%

DUKE! DUKE! DUKE!

YES to what all the others have said. Drop the nitro to 5%, use lots of castor, stir well and hang on.

If available in your area, SIG "Champion 5" or PowerMaster GMA 5/22 are great fuels for this motor.

Heaven forbid Duke ever found out you ran cruelpower fuel in that motor. (shiver.....)

Long Live Fox!

As stated above, low nitro and all castor for best results.

Run it on green Cool Power 15% nitro.....yes, synthetic oils are good.

Your Fox engine will last about 30 seconds on this wonderful fuel.

Thought the low nitro engines were only the .60 and up Eagle II through IV's? I have a Fox .50 that I have yet to run on a plane, but it ran fine on .15%. I would guess it was running lean, not enough oil (especially castor oil), or too much prop. Have a Fox Eagle I and a Fox .15 and they like nitro.

It doesn't need gob's of castor like my Fox Stunt .35 or even the Fox .15. It should run fine on Omega 10 or 15%. This is not a bronze bushed lapped iron engine, its oil requirements is not that different than other ringed engines, once it is broken in. Which make's me recall anothe possiblilty, some Fox engines are stubborn to break in. I know it is old, but how long did it run before sitting around a long time?

I've run 28% oil in my engines before the ABC and Nickel stuff of new, size in this case doesn't matter, even an .09 would want more oil. What prop are you turning?

The .50 turned a 11-6 at over 12.5K as I recall. This is a BB ringed engine. The .15 is a BB lapped iron piston, it needs 100% castor.

You'll want 28% castor, and the rest alcohol, non-synthetic fuel is what I assume you mean about 100% castor. I dumped all my iron piston engines because of the hassle and was able to afford some nice FX and 4 stroke engines in their place. I have a few SuperTigres left just because they aren't ugly and slow like Fox engines.

To say Fox engines are slow is to say you've never actually run one.

No kidding...

Fox didn't make slow motors. Well...the .35 c/l motor, but that was supposed to run slow.

Methinks 28% oil is a little excessive for routine use in an r/c motor. If you keep removing the "fuel" and replacing it
with oil....things are bound to start slowing down for you.
