I'm pretty much decided on the Irvine .53 and going with a Sig LT40 wing. My only concern now is transportation as I will never get a 70" wing in my car with twin booms and tail feathers all as 1 peice. I am thinking of ways I can make the boom/tail feathers removable. Thanks for all the help offered guys

Its pretty much the right size for what Im going to do with it. I am building a smaller fuse version
to a wing that has dihedral already, Ive built one like this before, the DragonFly I.
Looks like the Irvine .53 is the same size as the Irvine .40 (1mm traller) If the weights about the same, go with the Irvine .53, like they say, you can always back her off a bit on power, I think itll be fine weight wise, it puts out 1.7BHP, thatll be good. Im using the .32 heli engine because it was what I had at the time, it puts out more that an OS 40LA (1.2BHP) The only thing is she'll need a little more weight up front than the .32, itll be fine.

Insert blind nuts in the basswood plates on the wing, epoxy them in, then you can put bolts through the boom, harden that area on the booms with basswood and it can be removed. You can put ball links on the servos if you want them to stay with the wing, then just remove the linkages when you remove the booms. An LT 40 wing is a great idea!!

Hi guys, I know this is an old thread and I don't know if any of y'all are still here, but I've been looking at this and similar build threads for a while. I've wanted to build something similar for some time now, although I won't be installing all the video and downlink gadgetry (initially), just a standard 35mm Point and Shoot with auto advance, a bomb bay, and lighting. My intent is to use the Sig Kadet Senior as the starting point. The wing will be two pieces (wing tube) with ailerons, and removeable booms. I may have some questions as I go along (when I do start), like engine thrust angle. From what I can gather from the pics I've studied, the length of the booms from wing TE to horizontal stab LE, are roughly equal to the length of the fuse, forward of the wing LE. My concern is the strength of the balsa booms you guys have been using. If I'm using the Kadet wing, my wingspan will be over 80", which is larger than what I've seen here. With a plane that big, would the booms need to be more rigid in order to sustain side to side forces (tail wag)? Also with twin vertical stabs, how much area are you figureing for each? I apologise for the lengthy post, but I'm really intrigued by this design.
