Yea I've looked at g-10 before and I think I read your post earlier about how difficult it is to cut. I will try radio shack. Is epoxy the best adhesive to use with it?

yeah, epoxy's what i use. scuff up the glue area first to get a little better bond.

took me several hours but i've finished sanding the flow coat on the wing. before priming i need to get the gear in. i made a template of the gear well opening and, staying within the line about 1/8", cut out the sheeting.

then slowly removed the two ribs that were still within the well area and trial fit the gear with tire. (the tire shown is for display only). the test tire is about 1 1/4" thick. i'm going to need about 3/4" -1" thick tire to fit inside the well.

ok, both legs in now. even though i need to finish dressing up the wheel wells i couldn't resist the temptation to see her on her own 3 feet.

Looks really great.

On my 109F 50", I rounded the master airscrew blades to make them appear more scale. Although the engine in this model is not efficient with a 3 blade and has to fly with a 2 blade. But that will soon change.

I have an RCV 120 that I am setting up for a 3 blade system.

Many 109s in the making. Background 80" F/G plug,, BT109E, BT 109F, and an old pilot kit 109E hanging off my ceiling, and yellow 14, the only one flying right now.

We have a new motivation right now since the yellow 14 takes off, flies, and lands perfectly. This has started me building again.

Years ago I also had the Jemco 109, but that was way off scale. Still a looker though.

i managed to get some of the wheel wells finished. i'm not going to detail the wheels wells but i did want to add side walls. the real 109 had a fabric covering around the circumference of the wheel well. i couldn't think of a good way to simulate this so i'm going to simulate metal. before gluing in the 1/16" balsa side walls, i sanded away the remaining rib and spar material and then glassed the sheeting bottom that would be exposed using 2 oz. cloth.

then i glued in the sidewall and lined the gear leg channel with 1/32" balsa. i need to tidy up the well a bit more before glassing this by filling in some gaps with microballoons.

began some work on making the tires look at least a little better. the first thing to do was to thin them down some. i'm trimming them down to about 7/8".

pic 2-3: the next thing i needed to do was make a sanding tool to hollow out the "hub" and hollowed out a depth of 3/8".

pic 4: then i made a 1/32" ply disc to help stabilize the wheel and create a base for adding the spokes.

pic 5-6: to hold the wheel i soldered a washer to the outside axle and placed a nylon washer on the inside. a test fit shows that the tire fits completely inside the well. now to finish adding the spokes and add a ply plate to the opposite side. hopefully i can do that in the next day or two.

I was thinking glass the wheel wells and don't fill the weave? That might look like fabric if painted the right color? Don't know, was just thinking "out loud" as I admired your efforts.

hey, you know, i hadn't thought of that and it just might work. mostly i was thinking of how to give it the look of somewhat draped fabric rather than the flat look that balsa sheeting gives it. i'll give your suggestion a try and see how it turns out. thanks!

Any time. Maybe you could shape the balsa to give it that wrinkled, draped look. Don't know if they had snaps, or what not, but would look really cool detailed out.

the fabric covering was held in place with a laced rope through eyelets. that's more detail than i'm going to put into this model. i am planning on detailing the lower wing and doing a little with the oleos but will stop there. i can't see putting a lot of work into gear wells that really just isn't seen.
